Headlights - how effective are they?

Postby rushN on Sat May 17, 2008 9:56 am

Hi all,

My My09 GLX-R CRD is ordered. I'm just wondering what the standard headlights are like and whether I need to fit spotties to the standard nudge bar or not. How good is the spread on low beam, and spread and distance on high beam?

Most of my driving is on country roads. I have spotties fitted to the Bravo (only 'cause the standard lights are sh!t), but have had vehicles in the past where the OEM lights have been sufficient with a simple bulb upgrade.

Cheers

I find them pretty good on low beam and only just adequate on high but with Rallye 4000's no probs

^^same - IMHO low beam offers excellent spread, but high beam just doesn't penetrate enough distance for my liking; a pair of Lightforce 240's took care of that ;)

High beam spread is fine and I have the 240's focussed as long-distance spots.

High beam is a bit average - good spotlights definitely make a huge differance. If ya set the factory 'spots' up 'properly', to also use on high beam, it gives a brilliant combo of spread (factory spots), & distance (in my case, pencil beam Hellas.....)

But I did'nt tell ya that.....;) ;) 8-) 8-)

Its ok mate, I'll talk ya through it...........8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

For a start, to be a 'fog', means yellow lens or bulb.........;) ;)

And yes - pays to turn them off when following other vehicles, or if anything is 'on-coming'.........

I got booked back in my WRX days for daylight running my foggies :(

...and they were nowhere near as bright as the Falcodore's so-called foglights, which every SS and XR8 seems to use 24x7 :x

...but that's for another topic ;)

Would have to agree with every one else low beam is fine high beam is pretty average.
Its the same with all single lens vehicles they just are not good enough you need a lens for high and a lens for low.
I got some Night Stalker 170's for $139 from supercheap and a wiring kit for $20 on sale plus some black tube, cable ties etc. all for under $200

Live in the out back so good lights are a must.
Headlights are ok, but a hole lot better when fitted with some H4 Osram plus50 globs.
A set of Narva Targa 200mm 100w lights are very light but bloody tuff.
