Gasket sealant/builder with a gasket...?

Postby Stuart77 on Fri Mar 27, 2020 1:40 pm

G'day,

I'm changing my MN auto transmission filter/fluid tomorrow and have done this on a few different vehicles in the past and never used gasket sealant/builder with a rubber gasket but do use a silicone paste just to hold the gasket in place during assembly.
Now someone in a parts store is telling me that I should be using a gasket sealant/builder as well as the gasket supplied in the kit...

Is he trying to get more cash out of me or am I okay to do what I usually do??

I'm using a Ryco filter kit.

Cheers!

Probably up selling.

When I did my son's MN I just made sure everything was squeaky clean on the transmission and sump faces and yes a light smear of silicon just to hold the gasket in place.

The whole purpose of the gasket is to provide the seal.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!
