2014 MN Sudden loss of. power

Postby bollie7 on Tue Jun 15, 2021 6:06 pm

Gday All.
I've been searching existing posts but as yet haven't found anything exactly the same as my issue. My apologies if I've missed it somewhere.
So, I have a Dec 2014 MN, Base model (Pov pack) with Man trans. Only has 54000Klm on it. Been regularly serviced. New timing belt etc done at 50000 klm. (due to age).
Absolutely bog standard. Never been off road or on sand. Never been thrashed (I'm 62 - all that is behind me). Tows a 800kg camper occasionally.
This morning I head off to work and it's down on power. Not getting the usual turbo "boost" of power. Its like the turbo isn't working. It was fine yesterday.
Starts easy, No unusual noises, Nothing visibly busted, damaged etc around the engine. No warning lights.
This arvo when I got home I let it idle for a couple of minutes whilst I tried to hear anything unusual going on with the engine bay. Nothing that I could hear. I shut it down and when I closed the door, I faintly heard a short brddd noise from the engine bay. That soft that I wasn't quiet sure if I had heard it or not.
As I had some things to do that couldn't wait I didn't start it again.
So, can anyone offer any suggestions as to the cause of the sudden loss of power?
If so I'd greatly appreciate hearing them.
Thanks in advance
Peter

Cracked/split /leaking intercooler pipes would lead to loosing boost?

Sticking EGR valve is the usual cause of loss boost. You can fit a piece of tin over the hole and fit the EGR back on to test. Not a good idea to leave it there though.

I will have a close look at them on the weekend. It seems to pick up a bit at 3200RPM.
Whats got me stumped is the suddenness of this. Working fine one day, not so good the next. No warning of any sort.

This afternoon before I left work I was having another look to see if there were any obvious things wrong. I gave the actuator on the side of the turbo a push and basically moved it through its length of travel.
Started up and drove off. Car was back to normal. Ran fine on the trip home.
Not exactly sure what the arm that goes into the exhaust housing of the turbo does but I'm assuming its some sort of movable vane system. So for some reason mine had stuff in the wrong position. Hopefully it wont do it again.
Thanks for the replies.

Check that the little hose on the underside of the turbo actuator is not damaged.
