New Exhaust

Postby ML-VR08 on Tue Jun 10, 2008 7:44 am

Hey has anyone seriously thought about upgrading the stock exhaust? Also what size was everyone thinking?? I was looking at 3" or maybe 2 3/4" with new dump pipe and no muffler!;)

Have already done it. Went from first flanged joint after turbo in 2.5 inch. Small loss in bottom end power with more of an improvement in mid range. Am happy with the outcome..........8-)

Get the 3" with straight through mufflers from the turbo back. And a good CAT converter.
No back pressure in the system is best and qualilty straight through mufflers will keep a handle on the level of noise.

Go the 3", turbulent friction within the pipes actually makes the 3" breath better than 2 x 2½" pipes - I don't recall the math but we studied it in physics as there were a number of rev heads in the class and the teacher made a learning tool out of a common point of interest... Also speak to an exhaust specialist about what size dump pipe to use as choosing 2", 2½" or 3" will significantly alter your torque curve

Question with the factory cat will that void any warranty issues? if removed and a cat fitted further back?

I was quoted $700 for 3" pipe using 3" Bends and new high flow 3" CAT - he had a rough guess and said around 15-20% increase in hp and torque upto 25% with snorkel! And this guy knows his shit, races cars etc has numerous speedway cars - and of course a POS Navara (lol) - i might of converted him though....fingers crossed aye!!!!

Is that still mild steel throughout? Wonder if there is any advantage in using stainless instead?

hey i got my exhaust replaced. was originally going to go cat back but my local performance guy said that its a waste of time. ended up getting 3inch mandrel bent turbo back with a cat converter sitting under the drivers seat and one resonator. sounds heaps better, love the turbo whistle. as far as performance goes i dont think its worth doing as i have found it is hardly noticeable maybe 10-15% increase. i paid $600 for my total install. $300 just for the cat(steel internal not ceramic, ceramic block up with diesel), hence the price. hope this helps someones decision.

hey stevo8
highway driving doesnt bother me get used to the sound after a day. When i first got it done i had no resinator, i got about 5 minutes down the road and turned around and went back and got the resinator fitted. next on the list is the dp chip and boost controller. now that the 3 inch system is fitted can crank the boost up ;)
