Hiflow Diesel Pumps

Postby Naff on Sat Aug 02, 2008 6:44 am

Most servos have a hiflow diesel pump for trucks and they more often than not have a sticker on them that says "Not recommended for 4WDs or cars".

I filled up at a Caltex in Lakelands (WA) yesterday and thought I picked up a normal nozzle because the sticker was on the otherside of the pump - but as I was filling up I was trying to figure out the difference - both nozzles appeared to be the same diameter.

Can we use hiflow pumps in the Tritons? I know the VW Jettas can use them...

In either case - it wasn't a standard pump because I filled from empty in under a minute, which is a nice change.

Is it just that hiflow pumps can be a problem with cars or 4WDs that have baffles in the fuel tanks?

I do it all the time.

Just delivers more fuel, some of the pumps have larger nozzles but still delivers into the tank OK

I have used them before with no problems. Didn't see a sticker or any warning though.

Yep no worries with em, sept be careful at the end as it back flows quicker (noticed some of them have a wide nozzle that might not go in the filler pipe to easy

same fuel, you just gotta be careful when it gets near full so you don't get a nice vertical diesel pinstripe

A problem that can occur with high flow pumps is that the fuel foams up in your tank due to high volume, this can result in not getting a completely full tank. As a rule when I use these pumps I back off during the last 10-15 litres to allow fuel to settle.

Yep I use them all the time where availible..

I've been to many servos that have the sticker saying no cars or 4WD's trucks only, just ignore it, I class a 4WD as something like a Pajero or Hilux, Tritons are trucks.. 8-)

Mantis/Naff - if city link can charge truck rates for a triton, I reckon I'm entitled to call it a truck...

Is city link the toll system down there? Is it based on weight?

I've used the Hi flow in WA, bigger nozzle, and fills the 120L tank faster. The worst are Gull, slllooooowwwww.
