Unless he's had an aftermarket diff conversion to a locking system the standard Pajero front diffs were all open and they had LSD rears. I found that both NH and NM Paj seemed to have better grip than the MK. Maybe it was weight distribution because I don't think it was suspension one being torsion bar and the other coil sprung. They are certainly a bit shorter especially in wheelbase and this may have some bearing too as with the LSD's which I'll swear worked better than the Triton.
Really though, too many factors here to say why the Paj got over easier - tyre pressures, weight, gearing (auto or manual - the auto tends to be better at this kind of stuff), choice of gear, weight of right foot, whether the Paj chewed up the surface a little making it more slippery, whether you tried to tackle at a different angle...the list goes on. One log is not the measure of your truck's capability.
