Stuck in 4wd mode

Postby 3M W018 on Mon Apr 21, 2014 6:05 pm

Hi guys. I have been doing a lot of checking on here to find out but am unable too.

Whilst out 4wding today I am no longer able to select out of 4wd mode. I believe the actuator has been damaged but can only find out that if the actuator is damaged you lose 4wd. But mine is stuck in 4h no locker.
I have a 2010 turbo diesel GLXR with super select.

Please help.
Lets get down and dirty.

This happened to a mate of mine

It was a small pin where the gear level went into the gear box ( didn't retract from memory )

Need to pull all the centre console out to get acess to the top of the gear box. Remove the gear levels and it stood out from memory

He was stuck in 4 hi... Had no trouble since we put it back in place

Ok. So its sounds like its not the actuator.

Anything else it could be? I would like all ammo before getting it looked at tomorrow.

If the actuator loses vacuum you will be stuck in 4wd.
Did you have a hard hit on the front?
HD bash plates are recommended to prevent damage.
I would be looking at the actuator or the vac lines first

All fixed was just the transfer lever. A pin had moved and it needed a bit of lubing up.
only an hours labour and all good now.

That's the one I was thinking of...Apparently it is common on super select gearboxes

Yeah there was a bit of a rash of these occurring quite a while back. The difference between the actuator scenario and the gear selector scenario is that with the actuator you can move the lever to whatever position you choose, it just won't always give you what you were asking for. With the transfer lever issue your transfer lever (gear stick or whatever you prefer to call it) won't move out of the gear it's in, it just feels like it is jammed (which in some cases it is).

Unfortunately not as simple solution for me.. Apparently a vacuum hose was punctured and then mud and sand Ickes up into the 4wd solenoids... $420 later :( teach me for not getting bash plates I guess..

Bummer. That would have paid for plates with change left over. :(

Ouch!!

I repaired my vacuum line that melted for $8 (including a fair bit of excess tubing) and removed and cleaned Diablo's solenoids myself which fixed both our issues.

Yes bash guards are definately next on my to do list. But it sucks as i have to save for them. Everytime i get my work account down enough to get them something else comes up. I have my 180000km service due shortly. That's going to be about $600.

Ok so i pulled it apart this morning and did not notice any pins out. But i did notice the white plastic bush that houses the gear lever into the gear box had a piece broken off. Does any one know how to find a parts break down chart so i can get a part number on this?

Try this place mate:

https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/mitsubishi

If you whack in your vin it should show you which vehicle is yours. If your car is too recent you may have to manually select, noting that he MN has been made since late 2009 for example

Checked out that sight but could not quite find my answer. Here is a picture of the above mentioned plastic bush.

Should be on one of these diagrams. Then match the number in the diagram to get the part number in the list/table on the top right:

https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/mitsubishi/part?catalog=GE&model=KB8T&code=C803L001D&category=24&classification=GJNHZR8&group=130

I've used someone else's VIN but I don't think they changed transfer cases between the years.
