Flashing 4WD light

Postby Jem on Sun Oct 26, 2008 3:26 pm

The 4WD light on the dash continues to flash when in 2 wheel drive. It started after some very light four wheel driving. The vehicle definitely feels like it is back in two wheel drive. Took it to the dealer but the light went off on the way. They wanted it all day and wouldn't let me speak to anyone who knew something about it. I didn't leave it with them and the light has come back on since. I presume it's wiring. Anyone have any thoughts. :?:

Thanks

:)

From memory the manual says the light will flash if 4wd is unable to disengage, and suggests drive in forward then reverse. If its staying on so long and it feels like its in 2WD, I would suggest a sticky switch in the transfer case or something.

Or you've given the front bash plate a crunch when off-road, & thus naffed the front diff actuator..........

Is it definitely getting 4WD when shifted to 4WD........???

This happened on my MK. The dealer said it was just a dicky connection - until it was out of warranty - then it was faulty hub solenoids and cost $600 to fix!!

Hmmm, would windup cause that issue? Been driving in 4wd on tarmac/wet tarmac?

Have the vehicle booked in for tomorrow. Shouldn't be windup as I had just finished driving on sand and dirt tracks down by the river. I am pretty sure 4WD is engaging properly. Initialy I thought it might have been a bit ot sand or mud caught up somewhere but I will let you know after tomorrows verdict.

Well high country gets points for being the closest. Apparently the bash plate had been pushed up previously and was rubbing on the vacuum hose to the actuator and eventually wearing through. Not on warranty understanably but only $45.

Did a gnat fart on it? I think that's the first bash plate I'll be upgrading...
