Auto free wheeling hubs

Postby dueble on Tue Dec 30, 2008 11:41 am

Do the 07 glx/r's have auto free wheeling hubs? I was sure that they did until I jacked mine up and the front axles spin along with the front drive shaft when you turn the front wheels.

I think it's on a vacuum and engages when the car is off? Although if I'm wrong somebody round here will know the answer

Yeah that's the answer I was given also tritonstu - when the engine is off, no vacuum, hubs engaged - turn engine on, vacuum present, hubs disengage...

If you wanted to do some low speed manouvering in low range like reversing the caravan would it do any harm to disable the hubs from locking?
I used to do this with my 2.8 Rodeo with the manual hubs unlocked.

The ML Triton like the super select Pajero does NOT have any free wheel hubs period, they only
have the front diff disconnect system so if you could find a way to disengage it so when you select low
range you could then do what you used to with the rodeo. ;)

As to the logistics of doing this I haven't looked into it but someone on here may have .

Could Free Wheeling Hubs from a previous model or maybe a previous model Pajero be fitted up to the front then?

Unfortunately no they can't cause that's what I wanted to do but the front hubs are completely
different to the NL Pajero which you could put hubs on even though they had super select. :(

As above the only way I can see you could do it is via the diff disconnect system ;)
