Centre Differential Lock

Postby Top End Wrangler on Tue Jul 24, 2018 6:33 am

Has anyone had troubles with the centre differential lock not lighting up on the dash - 08 ML GLXR Auto ?

Any suggested tips ?

There are a number of switches on the gearbox/transfer case assembly.

Dud switch or broken wire between here and body wire loom entry would be place to check.

See the gearbox replacement thread, some good pics from memory.

2009 ML / MY09, 3.2D, auto, Super Select, factory rear diff lock.
All diff lights going on and off as expected. But I'm not convinced the centre diff lock is actually disengaging / unlocking as it should; Triton is binding / winding up on hard surface when in 4H. This shouldn't be happening?? How to check CDL for correct operation? cheers

I sometimes got the situation where lockup symptoms occurred when I engaged 4H just after I started the engine and started moving off.

I assumed the vacuum level hadn't built up in time.

Point I'm getting at is that the lockup may involve a vacuum actuator, maybe not functioning properly.

Yep, snap, that's when it usually happens to me too. Good point about the vacuum / actuator, will get it checked. Cheers.

The beasts can make some scary noise when that centre diff is locked before moving off and you flick the transfer lever back to 2H.
