K&N air filter = engine light?

Postby Stuart77 on Fri Mar 29, 2019 7:07 am

Hi all,

i installed a K&N air filter last night and went for a drive, was all good until i got up for work this morning and the check engine light came on.
Has anyone had a similar issue with using reusable filters?
Cheers

Probably got a bad connection on your MAF sensor.

Unplug it and give the pins a slight twist to provide a bit more tension when it's plugged in.

This hopefully will fix your problem.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!

If you own a modern diesel engined vehicle and are not in the habit of taking it to the dealer every time some little thing goes wrong then you really need to invest in some kind of scanning tool. This will enable you to get the fault code which then points you to at least the general area of the problem.

Posting on here that you have a CEL and asking for help is going to be an exercise in futility as members just take wild guesses as to what could be wrong. The problem may be related to installation of the K&N filter, but it may be something else altogether.

Giving a fault code in your post allows members to respond if they've had the same fault code and you will get more timely and accurate answers to your questions.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Absolutely, Nowforthe5th, couldn't agree more.
I was more so asking if anyone else had experienced issues using a reusable filter. I'll be having the code assessed/reset this arvo regardless.

Possibly over oiled and it’s affected the sensor, happens to my filter after I clean it and oil it to much

Thanks, everyone.
The light turned itself off. Speaking to my mechanic, he says that the MAF sensor adjusts to the new amount of air flow and recalibrates itself after a certain amount of K's/engine time which then resets the engine light.
Happy with the K&N, I know extra power is negligible but bugger me the sound coming out of my snorkel is good! :D
