New 3" Exhaust fitted today

Postby boostedbmw on Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:46 pm

I had my exhaust shop install a 3" mandrel bent system from turbo back today using a Hi Flow CAT and a single free flow Muffler. He also installed my EGT sender in a more suitable position. The whole thing only cost me $540 too, but i did have the CAT in my garage lying around (from my Turbo BMW, only had it on for modification plate approval). Was told a cat would have cost around $280.
The acceleration is much better now and definatly come on boost stronger. Will wait for the DP Chip on Friday before i up the boost some more (at 17 psi now) to 20psi. Here are some very quick pictures i just took.

Nice mate. Did you overcome or work out the turbo overheating possibility someone posted re it spooling too hard, too low? Is it an issue?

By Rick: nice mate,im thinking of a 3" my self or maybe twin 2.5" ????

I was advised - on the 3.5 petrol mind - to use twin 2" with an equalizing pipe as one 3" was too loud and would also cause resonance problems and bad droning in higher gears. These guys new what they were on about too.
I don't know the relevance to a diesel and the setup coming off a turbo though?

It sounds nice and quiet with no droning. I really wanted to avoid the PARTOL type of sound and keep it similar to stock. No turbo of overheating problems YET but i have only driven it home from work so far.
