Power loss under heavy load and black smoke

Postby Walrus1973 on Mon Jan 31, 2022 9:30 am

Hi all,
I have a 2012 PB Challenger 2.5lt TD 5 speed Manual.
My porblem is I get a massive power loss and black smoke under extreme load while towing up hills like the blue mountains.
The problem is so bad it loses nearly all power. I pull over for 5 minute and the problem goes away. Don't even have to stop the car. It's like the turbo or engine cools down and the power returns. This will then be ok for another 5 or.so minutes and the problem suddenly returns. All other times the car performs flawlessly.
I have had the car services regular. Have had NRMA out serveral times to check it however by the time they show up the problem has gone away as the car has cooled down again. I get not engine codes with this problem and it only seems to happen when towing up steep grades.
Anyone else had a similar issue and can advise what the fix is.

Thanks heaps guys

Hey mate. Thanks for your reply. Yeah the joiners seem ok and I replaced the pipes a few years back with the stainless forefront industries ones.

It's always better to search before you start a new thread. Chances are the answer is already here.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?
