Gearbox issues ?

Postby Still-Lurking on Wed Apr 22, 2009 9:14 pm

Hi guys, I was reading a letter in the new Overlander that mentions a 'known' Thai gearbox problem in the Hilux and how the owner fixed it with Japanese parts.
I have no idea if it's true or not, but the magazine didn't exactly write off the idea.

Anyway, I thought I read some time back that the Triton used the same gearbox as the Hilux ?

Any issues there for Triton owners ?

I haven't heard about either truck having any issues..

Cheers,
David.

Have not heard any probs with the ML and don't know how true it is that it,s the same box as the Lux although they both run the same ratios except for 1st gear so I've heard.

Have heard of a few probs with the lux boxes and a mate has had his redone twice under warranty (don't think they did a very good rebuild job first time round) :(

Even if the casings are the same they could be quite differant internally eg bearings, gear widths etc so wouldn't compare one to another without seeing inside them ;)
