Easy to add more power though :D The only time you would really need the new diffs (if loss of power and economy don't bother you) is in low range decending a steep hill where your relying on crawling. I have 32"s and the difference is quite noticable when decending. Have to use the break more than I should.

So has anyone done a diff ratio or transfer gear change? I am considering lowrange transfer gears if the above mentioned marks 4wd gears for the gen 2 will fit. Just wanted to know if any one had tried it yet?

and use Hardman Bros- maybe propose a group buy in the EOI section- I know Joe was keen.

I have been doing a bit of reading here. 26, did you find out if the marks gen2 3.15 gears will fit, or will we need to manufacture new sets?

I'm at 90% sure as is the manufacture- correct transfer case- just a matter if there was any changes.

35" tyres, would recommend the diff swap as well.

Nah 35s would be play tyres only. And probably 32 for daily. So wouldn't bother with the diffs.

I think you may have the trye listing for the ML (Diesel at list) incorrect. You have them listed as 17".

I've currently got a ML GLX-R and the wheels are 16"

Nice list by the way.

Side note, I still have the Promotion catalog for the ML 2007 and the ML 2008 as well as the MN model.

In one of the images it shows the chassis with the engine, the engine in the 2007 catalog is the same as the one in the 2001 (MN) Catalog, I'd say someone was very lazy when doing the images, not updating the engine pic.

Some more information has come to light on the MN rear diffs.
It appears that the MN diff is smaller than the ML (MN 9" v's ML 9.5")
this means different difflocks and that ratios from the ML are not interchangable with the MN.

SO- MN's are stuck with 3.9 (factory ratio) or 4.6, which appears in Gen 2 pajero 3.0l V6 manual (see below)
(best off from the gen2 as both front and rear are the same- and you will need to replace both)

rear axle = 28 spline, 30.5mm diameter, diff = 9" diameter
NH & NJ 5sp man has 8" diameter front diff (high pinion)

I'd like a six speed gearbox with more overdrive in top - be great to get highway revs down to1800 @ 100kph

I have just noticed the sticker on my rear diff says 3.6 and not the usual 3.9? I have the GLX manual club cab. How will this effect my gearing with my newly purchased 32' tyres? Any thoughts? :?

Without looking at ther ful picture (maybe changed ratios in the gearbox) I believe you will be pushing the boundaries of where the engine wants to be in the rev range with that combination.

How did it drive before the tyre change?
the 3.6 ratio is 8% less than the 3.9 ratio so was that difference apparent?
You have added 10% bigger tyres?

I also think/ remember that you are looking to put on the moblie house on the back- this will add weight and make the combo worse.

Again without looking too hard into the above- only you will be able to tell- in my case I still have enough power to run 34" tyres on the road- but not towing and tough offroading loose the engine breaking and "control" clutch would also be a issue.

If you don't like how the vehcile handles- you could change out to 3.9 gears- but I'm unable to confirm they will fit.

Yeah it still drives ok, still plenty of poke. I have about half ton on it at the moment with my work tools and it's ok so far, not sure how it will go with some serious load on the back though, i still got to put aux fuel, water tanks ect... :?

So it came standard with 205/R16C's = 734mm diameter and i have increased it to 265/75/16 = 804 diameter, so thats 70mm more :o But it looks sooo much better and handles way better too. :) So whats involved if i want to swap out my diff gears? How involved is this? Is it just a matter of stripping down the diff's or is a matter of complete new diff's? I have the factory diff lock in mine as well to consider. Might be easier just to live with it and get reduction gears for the transfer box for when off roading. My speedo only reads 3kph too slow with the bigger tyres, so thats better than 5kph too fast with the cheese cutters on... Why would Mitsu have different diff ratios for essentially the same drive train?
