Just bought a Bursons CV.... Probally get it Friday. Cheaper/easier than getting mine re-co'd.

Nice to hear Brendans review of it and then mine to really make me look like a schmucko

Bursons are normally very good so im quietly confident ;)

Here is a preview for you Matt ;)

They only just arrived and haven't been fitted yet, but look good and appear to be compatible with the MNs. The only thing is no ABS ring is supplied you will have to swap over the original. This isn't an issue in a workshop but may be a bit tricky out on the tracks. This dimensions appear to be right so hopefully we will not have any issues.

They are also a lot cheaper at $200 each retail.

You can also see the size difference on the wheel hub end and a few slight difference when compared to the Repco CVs.

Do you think Bursons or someone else is able to supply ABS rings Brendan?

Might be worth having one to fit to your spare. Then WHEN ( ) you do a CV you can just pull the ABS ring off your old CV etc etc..

Also what are your initial thoughts re: quality compared to Mitsi and Repco?

Only time will tell how good these are... and it is early.... but what do you think?

Triton CV Joints - removal and re-assembly

Brendan do you know if they are the same for ML/MN
Maybe Mitsubishi stock the ring as a spare part.
Mattstuck..... Did they give it to you at the right price ;)

I believe these are for both the ML and MN Triton. Mitsubishi list the same part number for both and from what I gathered, Burson's do to. I will test out the boots tomorrow ;)

Here's a few photos from testing.

The shafts from Bursons (It's probably a good idea to note that these are not branded as Bursons parts) and pretty close but of cause there are a few differences. Firstly there's no ABS ring, the shafts are thinner, boots are slightly different and the shaft appears to be too long.

OE- stepped- 30.1 29.3 30.1 28
Aftermarket- Straight- 27.1

One problem we found is the shaft appears to be too long and dinted the casing when it was compressed. It did turn and operate fine though.

We only tested the drivers side and did test the ABS ring as Lachlan needs to get his replaced under warranty (Clicking even in 2WD).

My initial thoughts are these are a good emergency parts but I would try and stick with genuine for long term use.

So after re-reading the original post regarding removal and replacement of the CV's and how we worked it out on saturday, the system posted in this thread is WAYYYY too complicated. No offense intended.

The Repco CV's were fitted to geek's vehicle on saturday, though there were a few niggly little issues regarding the ABS. I'll leave the photos of that to Cowboy Dave as he was the camera-man while I did all the work. Once I get some of the photos from him I'll write up my removal/replacement method and people can choose whichever method suits them best.

See the build up of my old Triton here.

Fraz is the master of this now. A few raised eyebrows when the front calipers and rotors weren't removed at all that's for sure. Rough timing on the driver's side was that it took only about 30 minutes and it wasn't like he was rushing either.

I think it should be made into a PDF for trackside reference complete with tool list.

I'm sure we can manage that. Fraggle is doing a write up and I'm downloading some pics right now.

Homer's tool list has a few that are not needed and there are arguably one or two more if you're changing ABS rings - as required with the repco/bursons items. All will no doubt be explained later.

I wouldn't go so far as to say master... "experienced" maybe

Hopefully I'll get this finished either tomorrow or tuesday. I can do it up into a PDF and if one of the mods could host it on here then it would be extremely handy to have printed and laminated for those off-road adventures we all seem to have. 8-)
