Would also like to know what to do with the larger of the two and has anyone actually taken off the crappy white plug on the rear MN diff and put in a diff breather? If so how did ya do it?? There is alot of talk about doing it but no real clean cut answers.. Any help would be muchly appreciated :D
Cheers all!

Rockowallaby took his off and replaced it with a braised in fitting. Might take a bit of finding though. There were photos posted when he did it. A couple of MNs have been dunked now and there have been no reports of the OEM breather taking in water as far as I know.

Cheers for the info cowboy dave! That tig system looks like it'll work a treat but a bit of an issue trying to get someone to do it! and to not get crap all in the diff! Interesting though that you havent heard any reports about the OEM breather letting water in. Maybe i might just put the other breathers in and see how the rear is holding up after a couple of swims ;)

I fitted breathers to my Triton MK manual, rear diff easy, front diff needed a fitting brazed in. Be carful with this one that it clears diff casing and other obstruction. Also fitted breather to top of gearbox where hose goes into t/f lever. Returned from Cape last night and have not chjecked oils as yet, too busy getting rid of the dust. Mate who had the same professionally fitted to his Pajero had problems. The hose on the front diff came loose and allowed water in. Had to change oil and fix problem at Bamaga.

Ok so the diff breather kit i bought from bay is a decent system and it come with 8 mm line and adaptors to suit current model triton, but i am having trouble convincing a store to install it cos they think its more trouble than what its worth,

Can anyone recommend an installer ?

Evening people,
I am so CONFUSED lol
Trying to fit breathers to my ML 08 3.2 diesel auto
Done both front and rear diffs fine no problem
When I pulled the consul out I was expecting to find the same as the pics that tassie kindly posted, ie brass pipe from auto?? And tube running into the transfer boot.
I only have one pipe running from transfer boot foreword.
I have had a look at the pics that tuff troop posted but cant see them from top when consul is out and cant get my hands up from underneath to even feel for the breathers.
Has anyone fitted breathers to ML diesel auto or can anyone offer advice on how to fit transfer and auto breathers?
Any help kindly appreciated,
Thanks in advance

Hi guys i've been reading over all the posts on these diff breathers, they seem easy to install on a ML, yet unfortunetly i have a 2012 MN 2.5 Diesel.

So i've come to my first problem on the rear diff

Taking the white little cap off, i need to find something that will go into there like some sort of connection, maybe something to screw into that , i'm not too mechanically savvy so i dont really know what type of fitting i'll need. I've seen on other posts what they look like yet, dont know the name, and they've all been TIG welded on. So to my next problem, am i able to put in the fitting without welding at all?
If i have to weld it then so be, i'm in sydney if anyone can help me out would be appreciated.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. :D

I remember seeing a thread where someone used pressed in plastic barb to flare it out after feeding tube through...

This pic might help to clear up the ML triton.
The circled areas are the "silver" alloy lines the breathers the front diff and solenoids/ actuator

The gearbox has a separate breather into the boot as described in other posts- the barb is on top of the gearbox (manual) if you wish to get to the source point.

How has everyone fitted the breather kit hose to the factory gearbox breather?
(the breather in first pic on the left hand side)

I pulled the cap of and slid the hose on then used a hose clamp to make it water tight

If the cap didn't come of and the pipe with the barb came out....you need to find it...when you pull the cap off it reveals the pipe that the hose goes on...

If someone could shed some light on if I should also put a breather line on the metal looking breather on top of my 15 mn manual transmission. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133 ... /image.jpg

It is really up to you. I fitted a breather on mine.

When I did pull it apart & understood how that breather worked I realised that it was probably not necessary. The cap is like a spring-loaded one way valve anyway.

Once I destroyed the cap (only way to get it off) I had no choice but to fit a breather pipe.

Pics of my setup in my build thread >>>here<<<

hope that helps a bit

Just done the rear breather extension on my 2010 mn triton. Not that hard. I just removed the white plastic cap and then the silver stopper. It does not leave much to clamp to but I just fitted a worm drive clamp over the hose at the diff and attached a fuel filter to the other up under the bonnet, used a few zip ties in between, seams to be working fine.
