Air Lock in Fuel System

Postby nealo on Tue May 20, 2008 8:23 am

Gday everyone, just joined to find out more about my new work ute and check out some of the mod's people have done.I have purchased 4 new dual cab tritons, and whilst driving mine to Perth on the weekend it stopped :( ....just stopped!!!!So here I was in the middle of the wheatbelt of WA, Saturday afternoon, with a car that would wind over all day long but just wouldnt start. Tried bleeding the fuel system, still no joy. After a 450km trip back home on a trailer(thank goodness for roadside assist) the deal;er tells me today that it was an air lock in the fuel system...strange how it had a fuel tank of fuel but :-)

Anyone had a similar experience, or wants to disagree with the dealer

Someone else on here had the same thing happen but they reckon they just pumped the fuel primer on the filter and away it went again.

4wdmonthly had this happen I think on a rodeo in the outback, mentioned it in a tech article in the back of one of the mags as something to watch out for. Apparently it even had Roothy stummped as to what had happened.

I'll try and find the writup (From Mark Lowery sp?)

Yeah I pumped and bled everything I could while stuck on the side of the road...not much else to do in Dumbleyung on a Saturday afternoon.

Me being me, I refuse to believe that a brand new car with a full tank of fuel can develop an air lock "just like that", having driven diesel vehicles many thousands of km's and never had it happen before.

I'm off to pick it up in 10 minutes so i'll see what they have to say.

On a side note, I looked in the manual for the location of the "tool kit" with the ever useful standard issue pliers and spanner. Apparently there are 2 types of vehicles brought out...one with the tool kit and one without....doh!

Behind the rear seat in a dual cab
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

It ain't pretty being easy!!
