:)
Reason I've invested this amount is, to be able to get in contact with someone no matter where i am at. You know how HF works. Can save a life sometime... Who knows...

I've done the MARS/TX mod easily and i can transmit thru 1.8-56MHz, 137-164MHz, 420-470MHz.

Plus it receives all the way 100 kHz to 56 MHz, 76 to 108 MHz, 118-164 MHz, 420-470 MHz. And 100Watts of TX power!

Ok so let's imagine you are in trouble and you need to call PAN PAN or MAYDAY. Then it is legal to use the radio in case of emergency regardless of whether the person holds the appropriate license. But you need to have some idea of where to tune the radio to call for help.

By far the safest and cheapest way is to buy a GPS EPIRB. Flick the switch and wait for help.

PAN PAN refers not to paaaaancakes but a distress call where there is no immediate threat to life. Mayday is used when there is an immediate threat to life.

PAN= possible assistance needed.

we used to use it in the CFA but it is no longer used.
I think it is mainly a marine call now

Always best to run back to the battery but plenty of guys have gone with the cigarette lighter without issues.

I would run it direct to the battery.......no matter where you run it.......put an inline fuse in ;) to be sure to be sure. ;)

Mine is connected to the ciggy lighter, at least you know you cant leave it turned on. My plan is now to run it to the second battery via a fuse box in the cabin, also got a fuse by the dual battery. From what I have learnt around here, fuse everything, twice won't hurt!

Even just a relay off the cig lighter but power direct to battery would work

thanks for the replys
pro's and con's for both
if i wire it to the battery i know i will end up leaving it turned on
but if i am parked for some time and need to have the radio on wiring it to the ciggy lighter will need the ignition to be on, putting more drain on the battery.
i think i will wire it to the ciggy lighter for now and when i install a dual battery i will power it from that.
cheers

mine is wired to the aux battery & stays on 24/7

I did have it wired to the main battery but when I started the engine the radio would turn off.
I would quite often forget to turn it back on  really annoying on trips :x

Mine is just to the Aux power on the centre console. I am happy with that, as I only really see my UHF as being used when driving around with others. If I am out camping, because I dont have a second battery (yet  ) the keys are in the ignition anyway for the fridge. I just turn everything else off, ie UHF, display screen, lights etc. Unless of course I need the UHF, in that case I will obviously leave it on!!!

It does the job...

Mine is Uniden and wired directly to battery, through relay operated by ACC switch. Nice clean power and no problems with turning itself off.

Do it once, do it right.

I think the 7760 is ignition sensing.

Easy enough for you to check, of course.

It's an option in the dealer software for icom radios.

That's pretty flash but if you use your phone to control it whilst driving there's a hefty fine.

I have a ORICOM UHF300 5-WATT UHF 80-CHANNEL MICRO CB RADIO. $139 new from eBay. I removed the ashtray face plate and you can mount it using the existing holes and bolts. Fits perfectly.
