G'day all. Has anyone replaced the very ordinary factory computer display? If so what with, and how difficult was it to do?

tuner is built in stevo, you just need to get an arial. regarding the last statement about fitting the player I may have to put it on hold due to an incident with a tree today my triton will be in the panel shop for a while, possibly written off:(

Tritonstu, I feel for you, hope alls well

I have a VMS (anvc) unit in my vehicle.

It is a lot dearer than other options, but it is plug and play (there is a triton loom available)

The other benifit for me was oziexplorer built in.

4wd26 - If you don't mind me asking, how much did the VMS unit set you back? It looks great.

Mate it was approx $2600 including loom and camera and GST (I bundled it in with the price of the vehicle on lease so not entirely sure)

It is expensive- but for me it was the best option. In 3 years time- when the lease is up I'll probably have a go at a custom carputer. I really wanted to avoid a laptop in the front seat, but wanted navigation.

Side benifit allowed me to fit a UHF where the factory radio once was.

I got mine fitted by OLBIS communications in Brisbane (they are the agent for VMS)
here is the VMS website link (includes a dealer network)

Dosn't look like there is a dealer in Tassie. with the wireing loom I don't think it would be a big job. Hardest part is probably the reverse camera?

4wd26 thanks for the link mate.
What made you choose this unit over others which may have a tassie dealer?

I couldn't find another unit out there that could do everything this can do (off the shelf that is)

My main criteria was off road navigation (oziexplorer) if your preference dosn't require this there are other options available

No doubt there are new units coming out and I would especially be interested in anything that came with an operating system and harddrive, but at this stage I don't know of any.

BUT search the forum for a few others who have created there own "carputer" they have been pretty good.
