Screwing in to floor. What do i need to do?

Postby King Triton on Mon Sep 15, 2008 1:49 pm

I want to mount my CB under the drivers seat and need to screw the bracket to the the floor.
Is there anything wrong with screwing to the floor?
What do i need to do to make it water proof? Is some silicone on the bottom of the screws enough?
any tips or hints?

I just made sure there was nothing I could damage on the underside of the floor and screwed my UHF main box and fire extinguisher bracket through the floor. Siliconed up the underside and that was it!
Thats all I have ever done. No problems, no leaks.

Hey King,
As freestylecab said with the the screw part if you wanted sikaflex works well, when finished spray a bit of soapy water arount the area and on your fingers and you can mould the sikaflex or silastic with out getting gooie fingers.

another way I have heard of and will probably use to fix an amp under the passenger seat is to take the carpet out, get a bit of ply or mdf and glue/silicone/sikaflex to the floor pan and then screw into that

To mount light weight units like CB's and small amps, I made a brachet out of sheet Aluminium with fixing screws protruding upwards. Mounted this under the carpet with the screws poking through the carpet, then mounted the unit on top. Works a treat and no screw holes for rust to start.
