I'd go 3mm mate the thicker the better! I got them made in 3mm stainless and they look good roughly $300 all up!

They said they can only bend 2.5mm - i asked about 3 and they said it puts too much stress on the machine?

Ahh what a load of crap! I just installed machinery at Maryborough SHS that will bend up to 5mm plate! Mate do you want me to get a quote from lasercentral up the road on 3mm steel? They made my plates and i have drawing on file! Can organise freight through work here pretty cheap.

ML
2.5 will be fine, still a big improvment over the pissy standard crap.
Think of it this way, the plates at 2.5mm thk will be roughly 20% weeker than plates at 3mm thk.
If you can live with that go for it at $145, bargain!
Was it stainless or mild steel? Stainless will be stronger but for that price I assume it would be the latter.

Will be keen for this as well if you uncover anything. Will make some enquiries of my own in the meantime and report back if I turn anything up.

That looks awesome jt1986. Funnily enough I'm jt1990. Did you make them yourself or have them fabricated?

nah I was lazy and got them laser cut and bent and I took it from there drill holes for mesh and paint with stone guard. simple enough for anyone to do. would of preferred to use some perforated steel instead of the cheap mesh (had it laying around the shed) but will change that at a later stage just to protect against sticks a bit more.

How did that work out cost wise? Compared to buying a ready made set for $300+?

I'd love to do it myself but don't have access to the tools.

for me it was going to cost about 330 for prestige bash plates delivered to perth and if I was going to just use the diagram thati downloaded from this thread would of cost me 250 to get cut and bent but my design cost alittle extra cause they had the draw them up ended up costing 270 plus paint and screws nuts bolts 50.

I could of got it cut cheaper but they were further away and were going to take longer to do them and as I needed them I just got them done

Nice little design there mate and good to see a bit of airflow happening as they could all use as much air coming in the front as they can get, I reckon people would pay for that look 8-)

thanks dave that was one the reason I went with custom made plate I preferred this design over all the ones I could find.. downside is the mitsi sign has big hose for sticks hence y I need to something in there. I cant take credit for the design I pinched it from dan40d.. I just took a print out of the download from the first post and a pic of dan40d plates in the guys and got them 3 days later

Ah yeah I remember that now. One thing that needs thinking about is ventilation for the front diff. The stock plates have some big cutouts right in front of the diff and the diff itself has some cooling fins on the outside of it (unless those ribs are just for rigidity?) but there are very few of the plates that come with equivalent ventilation at that location.

The other change I would add to your design is to stick a hole in the centre near the rear of the rear plate ready to take an oil drain hose off a fumoto oil drain valve - saves removing the plates for oil changes then.

JT1986, they look bloody good. Did you say you painted them up yourself? Did they have all the correct holes in them from the fabricators, for mounting?

I reckon I prefer the GLX-R cut-out but Im guessing the more intricate the cutting, the more it costs? I might use the same mob as you used I reckon.

The mounting holes were correctly marked on the original design if I'm not mistaken.

And yeah I'm confident that he painted them from this:

and also the later reference to the cost of folding 'plus paint'.

I got some quotes today for cutting and folding (GLXR text), slightly more than what JT1986 got. Maybe if a few people were getting them done they'd give us a discount?

I printed the sheet out and took it in too them and that was the reason it was cheapish. saves them time having to draw it from scratch so maybe try faxing/emailing the file if u haven't already.
.exact price for 'glxr' plates were -front plate 4mm mild steel $111 +gst
______________________________-diff plate 4mm mild steel $107 +gst
_______________________________total__________________$218 +gst (239.80inc)

the company is " allard engineering services" unit 1, 4 dickens place Armadale WA 6112... ph 9497 2557

and as for plate fitment they were pretty good. they did fit but the slots for the bolts on the rear of the front plate were a bit snug on the bolts so I did give them a quick lick with a grinder just for a nicer finish. didn't realy need to but I could so I did.

yea painted them with a paint call "stone guard" cames in black or grey aresol cans cost me $15 each from auto one.

if u want anymore info feel free to pm me
