centre console cooler

centre console cooler

Postby BB32 on Fri Jan 16, 2015 5:02 am

Hi all,

Has anyone tried to make the center console between the seats in to a cooler using the air con. I know that some vehicles have this as an option and wondered if I could do it on my Triton.

Any suggestions welcome.

One day, I might hunt out another console to play with.
One of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Thermoelectric-Peltier-Refrigeration-Cooling-System-Kit-Cooler-fan-TEC1-12706-/171202833435?pt=AU_B_I_Electrical_Test_Equipment&hash=item27dc7bec1b and some expanding foam for insulation might make a reasonable cool box.

Aircon just keeps up anyway. I wouldn't stress it anymore.
Where the two console pieces join, there is no room for ducting to pass through. You would have to bring the duct in another way.

Glove box would be easiest and have more space.

Our Peugeot had the ability to run cool air through it and I think my Vito or VW kept the Glove box cool as the duct ran right behind it.

You'd probably only need a bit of 25mm corrugated conduit or pool hose to tap one of the cool air ducts and just bleed it into the space. A bit of foam could be used to form a bit of a gasket around most of the box.

This would be the easiest way

Or if you really want to go custom Engel makes a bit of a kit to fab up your own:

But something like Har05L has posted above would seem easiest. Engel used to do one about the same size too. I had one for a while but it died. I seem to recall a single cab with one of the waecos as a centre console. Bit more intrusive for a dual cab though as it's going to protrude into the back seat area.

I have seen a post where this was fitted in between the seats. I was hoping to do something that kept the vehicle interior looking standard.

I will have a re - think.

Sorry to jump on an old post. Iv got a small waeco center console cooler/heater that's too akward to have in the cab and I don't want to chop up the center console so I'm going to strip the internals out of it and try modify the original center console housing to hold it all ... il post up photos and see how it goes. For $50 if I stuff it up its no big loss haha
