3.2 GLXR performance

3.2 GLXR performance

Postby shonepfc on Fri Jul 10, 2015 1:09 am

Hei guys ive had my 2006 3.2TD GLXR for almost a year now and as it is the first diesel car i ever owned it took a while to realize that maybe its not performing as it should. When i got it i thought its just a diesel i cant expect the same response as a petrol engine but after driving couple of friends cars that are also TD 4x4 like navara 2.5 i realized my triton is just way to lazy.

Not sure is it just me but it feels like sometimes it runs and sounds so much better than other times it feels like a 5 tone truck. Low end specially under 2000rpm feels like the car is struggling so if i change gears at arround 2500rpm and the next gear starts at lets say 1700rpm it takes a few seconds (even with fully pressed pedal) for the car to reach those 2000rpms and its then when i can finally feel it actually accelerating .So i have to change gears at 3000rpms for it to feel like its not struggling, guess thats why im getting 13.9L/100kms.

Also does anyone know is there a standard for extended fuel tanks how big are they? And how much diesel should be in the tank when the light comes on, as mine is extended but i bought it second hand and have no idea . Im guessing 120l as if I drive a bit after the light comes on i usually fill 105-110L.

thanks

I'd put my money on your 3:2 is all chocked up with carbon and needs both intake manifolds cleaned....you should be getting 10 to 11 ltrs per 100..
Long ranger tanks take 125 ltrs by memory...and usually leave 15ltrs when the light comes on..

Yeah mate, carbon build up for sure. I was in the same boat. Bought a second hand 2008 ML GLXR with 80k on the clock. Mine was more obviously as it starting to almost go backwards up steep highway roads and the check engine light was coming on frequently. Bought an Ultragauge and confirmed that.

Where are you located "shonepfc"? If you're in Brisbane, go and see Lee. I had my upper inlet manifold replaced and lower flushed clean (apparently the lower one was in good nick anyway) for under $500. It has so much power now. Sounds totally different too

Thanks guys, thats what came to my mind first but wanted to hear suggestions . I am in Melbourne, does anyone know any good places in Melbourne where i can get this done for a reasonable price.

Yeah every time i feel up its 105-110L and the fuel gauge starts drooping down after 300-400km and i do get around 850km till the light comes on.

Does it seem to have a different personality each time you get in it and drive?

My 3.2 manual gives me consistent 8.8-9 l/100kms........13.5-14.5l/100kms with a jayco expanda on the back. I don't drive it like a v8 supercar and it has had the manifold cleaned and catch can fitted. 2008 model with 89000 on the clock.

Mine is 2006 and has 165 000 on the clock. Yes i think sometimes it feels better than some other times, but i guess its not huge difference.

I guess i often change gears a bit late as it sometimes feels like its strugling if i change the gear at lets say 2500rpms and the next gear starts under 2000rpms...
