Power window's sliding very slow up and down

Postby coughy on Sun Mar 19, 2017 2:14 pm

ok gurus what do you use to clean and then lube up the window slides??
because i have been using lanolin down the slide tracks for the power windows but they are going slow now so i think that my lubing up has gummed them up and now it is worse
so i need to use what ????
so that the windows can go up and down but not at snail pace????

Yes, agree too - previously used Nulon EZI Glide lightly only on several vehicles and did the job.
Also being silicone, not sure if it will react with what you have put on your slides already or your tint ??
Whatever brand you use their website should have the MSD sheet with spec's n warnings etc - but plenty of silicone lub's out there.

Maybe time to give the runners a clean and get rid of any dirt/ dust/ mud that may be causing it to go a bit slow.

Sometimes I just  at some of you blokes who should know better.

Talking about the rubber inserts in which the windows sit, if they were designed to be lubricated then don't you think they'd come with lubrication already on them from the factory? They don't, so surely that tells you that they're designed to work without lubrication. Just looking at them shows they have a felt-like surface where the glass tracks and this supports and seals while minimising resistance by not allowing direct contact with the rubber.

If they're binding up then either they're full of dirt/dust/mud that is preventing that felt-like surface from doing its job. Either that or they're gunked up with lanolin or some other crap that is attracting the dust. Clean gently with detergent and warm water and rinse. When dry, inspect carefully to ensure that the felt is still in good condition. If it's worn through then replace.

If it's the regulator that's binding up then establish why. Parts of this are designed to be lubricated and may need a light smear of appropriate grease, however check for wear which may require replacement.

If you must lubricate your window runners i would suggest that Inox would be more suitable than silicon. Available in the tool shop in the big green shed. :D
Maybe some truckwash and a garden hose will achieve the same result.

Nooooooooooo! They're not made to be lubricated.

See coughy's post above on his mistake with the lanolin spray and he'll regret the silicone too, once it starts attracting all the dust and dirt.

Yes, gotta agree - and yes I recommended silicone a few posts back (what was I thinking) it was alright for old previous rides I had but would certainly do as Chris recommended with the Newby if it arises.

they say not to use any lubricant on garage door tracks too, we use silicon spray on them every day as it's the only product that doesn't attract dust ! I've used it on my window tracks for years all good, I'm tipping 5th just doesn't like silicon spray ! as all panel beaters seem to think it's the devil !!

 Spot on there, mate. Causes us no end of grief, but that's not why I'm recommending against it. All those tiny fibres work like the crowd with the window crowd surfing above them. Lube them up, even with a 'dry' silicon and they won't work properly.

My drivers window is shuddering when it is about half way up. Does it for about 10cm then all good again.
Started during all the rain we have had lately and hasn't got any better with the better weather.
Its not dirt in the runner and have never lubed then. Never had an issue before
Anybody got any ideas on a fix
