I had one on the roof of my old rodeo. Used to hold about 16lt. Was always handy.

Hey Subi,

Great idea with the water storage!

Is there enough space to add additional piping to expand on the capacity?

Regards,

Nick

I think you could increase it a little from what I've got - would be a bit of trial & error though :)

Hey Subi,

I was looking under the truck today to start putting together something similar to what you did. I was hoping to expand the capacity a little and take some advice someone else mentioned earlier and to use the space just behind the rear wheel guards, looks like you could either bit multiple 100m pipes straped and piped together or use a 150mm pipe, do this on both sides, hook up and potentially have 30litres of storage.

My issue is how to strap all these stuff to the car so that it doesn't move or come away from the car over time. I saw you use straps, I was going to do the same thing, but in terms of strapping either 100mm or 150mm pipe up behind the rear wheel arches, any ideas? Seems like there are a few factory drilled holes but nothing really I can screw into.

Also, did you set this up for drinking water? If so, what glue did you use?

Cheers,

Nick

G'day Nick - it wasn't for drinking water so I just used normal PVC glue. I also looked at those big spaces up in behind the rear guards, but could not easily see a way to mount anything there - my aim was for an air tank on one side and water on the other :?

Cool,

No dramas, I'll see if I can think of anything. Air tank for compressor?

Yeah, the air tank would have been for compressed air 8-) but it all became the usual case of too many things to do, and not enough time :?

Hey, have been thinking about putting this onto my car now that i've seen how easy and cheap it is. What would i have to do to make it safe for drinking water though? As i dont have dogs that'll be going offroad with me anytime soon (not unless you count my toyota mates  ) i'd be looking at about a 10-15L storage. Also, would it be possible to mount the tank closer to the front of the tray/back of the cabin? i've got the ARB rear bar and will hopefully be moving to an ML tub soon, so i dont wanna be stuffing around trying to relocate it if i get the new tub.

Cheers, and great idea subi

It's all about finding the space mate, not too much room underneath as you get closer to the front.

There are tanks that fit along the front of the tray (mine takes 60 odd litres but would be too tall for an ML tray), tanks that fill the footwells in the rear passenger area and even bladders that you can hang behind your back seat. So plenty of options out there, many covered in other threads in here.

hey mate I just used the stainless (bugger memory blank  ) screw ring clamp's. Youve travelled behind me and probably seen them on the towbar. 8-)

I use mine just about every trip to wash hands and use it for dish water. One of the best mods i've done. except replace the wife in the passenger seat. :o

use your glasses out old man ;)

I have not yet fitted outlet/inlet-next weekend maybe.
I will fit a fuel filter for a breather

As far as the weight-18kg extra when full, I figure I will carry the water anyway this is just out of the way.

will update with fitted pics & specs later

Where are you planning to fit the outlet tap? (that is...if you know yet)

Being that the lowest section will be at the middle of the joining tube will you be plumbing it from there, fitting a pump...??
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

still looking at options for tap placement :?

I will double up the thickness of the pipe wall & fit an outlet at the lowest point.

A pump is an option I am considering

Another option is to fit a valve like on a tyre and use your compressor to pressurise your flow
