Undertray water tank

I did think of that too, but if I had a breather it would not work.

I only used the blue low pressure glue, maybe I should have gone with the green high pressure glue instead

as I still have it sealed I have the option to go either way
I will mull over it during the next week & see what I come up with.

I will be watching how you mount this! I wanted to do one before I went away but couldn't work out how to mount it! Spent plenty of time thinking about it too. Great idea!

Looks good
Just what I need more weight

use your glasses out old man ;)

I have not yet fitted outlet/inlet-next weekend maybe.
I will fit a fuel filter for a breather

As far as the weight-18kg extra when full, I figure I will carry the water anyway this is just out of the way.

will update with fitted pics & specs later

Sorry snoozy
I had some mounting ideas for you but seeing how cranky you have gotten since your last birthday I'd best keep them to my self

Undertray water tank

Postby Belbrook on Thu Feb 09, 2012 5:41 am

Im currently designing a tank for my MN ( more space for the tank than a Monty Burns butt ML).i am planning on using unistrut this will give a good mounting point and also allow clearance for spare wheel winder. Will post pics when complete.

Under vehicle water storage

Postby Jm3132 on Wed Mar 26, 2014 11:32 am

Hello all,

I have been searching and looking at all the different ways people have been carrying water in a permenant set up.

I'm hoping to hear and see what people have done that doesn't go in the tray or cabin.
Or any suggestions?

I'm hoping to get a tank under the triton somehow and have a tap near the number plate with probably an auto shurflo if gravity isn't enough.
It will be mainly for washing your hands etc, maybe a glass of water if the container allows it.

I have a mn GLX-r manual and yes the spare is still under there which I would prefer not to re-locate.

Any input would be appreciated

Cheers
Matt

when I was looking to buy my triton I found one guy who had made a tank that fitted above the spare wheel. he had got the idea from the 'oppiste lock sub fuel tanks' idea. he had used them for 3 years with no troubles. he had put a electric pump on it for decent pressure. its something I will be looking to do when I get to that stage.

I got a stainless steel tank made dits on towbar cross member, about 40lts and is gravity fed to tap just to the side of tow hitch, in pic you can see tap below step. I have a pump that connects to tap. Haven't had chance to mount it permanently yet.Click to view larger picture

Yeah something like that would be awesome, I briefly toyed with the idea of using the opposite lock fuel tank for water, but decided it wasn't worth selling any organs for a water tank.

I'd love some pics or more info of this tank if anyone knows any more about it or the guy.

it cheaper to make them if u have the know how and tools to do so. plus water tanks don't need to certified like fuel tanks. but like the idea of on top of the tow bar would be a lot easier

The good thing about those plastic tanks is that they're only 90-100mm thick from front to back so don't take up much room. The bad thing is that they're taller than the tub so if you have a hardlid or other rigid tonneau setup then you won't make it fit.

Something like this one below you could maybe fit under the tray above the spare? I haven't measured it but there's a lot of space down there:

only problem with in tray tanks is for anyone who has a ml tray, where u fight for every inch of room. it's surprising how loosing an extra inch or two can make things harder to pack for the family trip.

Yeah most ML owners won't admit it unless you get them pissed first but this is one area where the MN has a definite advantage.

until I watch an ML pull out of a dip just before i find another way round, damn it if the MN dont have a big booty....an the equivalent departure angle as a 747

on reflection the 747 has a better departure angle..

Mojo...

I'm Happy to sacrifice a little tub room for decent departure angles...

yeah I kno wot u mean iv always admitted it, well once I had bought one and tried to pack it up for a trip. I just have an exact place for everything when we go away now. still prefer the ml over mn the tray just doesn't look right to me, too much hanging over the rear wheels but everyone has the own opinion. if they didn't it would be a boring world.

That's a great tank and pretty much what I'm trying to achieve.
I'm laying under here now and the only problem with that is the chassis is only aprox 950mm wide. The spare sits aprox 150mm off the tub but then you have to deal with being able to drop the spare with the twidler or try and fit it in front of the wheel where there is aprox 500mm between the two chassis cross members.

A shorter version of that would be great.

If love the in tray tank but by use of the tray won't allow it.
