Front tow bar

Front tow bar

Postby tassietriton on Sat May 23, 2009 3:52 pm

Has anyone fitted a front tow bar to their ute?
I am thinking about it to enable me to manouvre the boat around a bit easier.
I have an Ironman bull bar (no winch mount). By the looks there are some reasonably solid anchor points along the front of the Tritons that a front bar could me mounted to.
Would appreciate any advice or assistance.

Offset it about 12" left of centre so you can see past the boat/caravan/trailer from the drivers seat - as for how to do the fab, I'll leave that to the better versed here...

Dont see why It couldnt be done tassie, just bear in mind though that whatever you make for the front, legaly must not protrude out past the front of the bar. So if you install an RHS member in the bar to take a gooseneck make sure it finishes inside or flush with the front of your bar. Then whenever you need to move your boat just throw the gooseneck in and away you go 8-)

Thanks fellas.
Going in Thursday to have it fitted- $330 fitted sounded reasonable enough.
Will be made to fit the existing Mitsubishi tongue on the back and at the same height. When removed, the female part will be behind the front face of the bull bar so should be OK.
I could see down the RHS of the boat when centred up against the boat so I decided to centre it. I wasn't sure what mounting it off centre would do to the driving dynamnics.
Will post some pictures when its done.

Finally got the boat out yesterday.
Putting it back in the shed was soooo easy with the front tow bar.
Best of all the airbag didn't go off and take my head off!

Tassie, any chance of getting some closeup pics of where and how you mounted the bar mate?

Will do.
It is essentially a mini tow bar.
The coupling is welded to a cross member which bolts on to the chassis rails in the same place as the bullbar does.
It was custom made by a local business here in Hobart.

Tassie triton hasn't logged on for like 5 months mate so I wouldn't go expecting an answer in this thread.

Powerful 4x4 offer this sort of setup as an extra with their bullbars but as far as I can tell they aren't selling one for Tritons yet.

But don't hold your breath.
I asked about sliders about 3years ago and they said they would have them within 12 months......they still don't sell them.

Front TowBall Bullbar

Postby eicarsto on Fri Oct 11, 2013 5:18 pm

Hi All,

I have searched but couldnt find any info on what I am after.

I recall from some of the magazines I read that there is a bullbar on the market that has the ability to attach a towball so the moving of caravan and trailer is simplified.

I am about to purchase a CT, but where I live having to reverse it into the garage will be a real pain. Would much prefer to "push" it in from the front.

Does anybody know the brand of the Bullbar?

Cheers,

Yeah it's from powerful 4x4. I heard they were going to produce a triton bar soon but haven't seen one yet.

Here's a link to their hilux bar which has a video about it. $300 optional extra by the look of it. http://store.powerful4x4.com.au/premium-bullbar-toyota-hilux-2005-2011/
