Turbo Wastegate arm "ADJUSTMENT MOD" And full test results

just wondering, by doing this wastegate arm mod.... does the ecu see the extra boost that shows up on the scan gauge. The reason i ask is, once my parts from chip it arrive and i wind the boost up, will this mod limit the amount of boost i can add before it throws an overboost code, so basically before wastegate mod boost was peaking around 14.8 psi, after mod it peaked around 16.8 psi, once i add boost via manual controller, will i only be able to add an extra 2.2 psi of boost before throwing a code, or should i wind back the wastegate arm and add approx 4 psi of actual boost? or does the ecu not see the so called extra 2 psi showing on the scangauge from the mod? hopefully thats not too confusing? :?

Pretty sure the chipit tricks what the ecu is seeing even when running higher boost so you shouldn't have any issues.

You could run 20psi without the Chipit and scanguage will read accurately.
Once you intercept the MAP reading with the Chipit the 22psi? ECU limit will be raised and the scanguage will read lower than the actual boost by the amount it's been massaged to raise the limit.

Something like that! :?

haha, makes sense to me but I know how it works. Basically if your running.15psi actual boost your scanguage will show 15psi. When you install the chipit and for explaining purposes you are still running 15psi actual boost your ecu and scanguage will see 8psi ( this figure is made up to give you a picture). The chip will show the ecu a lower figure so the ecu doesn't throw a code.
Maybe that's explained better?

But in addition, I think with the chip IT showing the ecu a lower than expected MAP pressure this in turn makes the ecu develop slightly more boost (I think 2-6psi depending on tune number) resulting in an overall net increase of actual boost.

The scan gauge reading thus becomes an underestimate though, so it might still be reading 15psi, but the actual boost is now 17 or 18 psi (for example), because of chip IT's intercepting skills. This is also how the torque gains are able to be made. This is why running a separate boost gauge if you want to know actual boost psi is necessary.

I think .....

Yeah this is one of those threads that needs a reminder every so often that it only applies to the MLs.

pretty much what i was trying to establish is, doing the wastegate mod shows approx increase of 2psi on the scan gauge even though your not really getting a 2psi increase, once i manually increase boost with the manual boost controller, overall will i be lossing the ability to turn it up an extra 2psi due to the waste gate mod showing an 2psi increase,eg. so only upping the boost by 4psi instead of 6 psi as it is throwing a code due to reading an extra 2psi from the waste gate mod? question makes sense in my head but sounds a little confusing writting it down me thinks

Sorry, I can't see why your scanguage would show 2psi extra after this mod but it actually isn't producing extra 2psi??

ML 3.2 to be even more specific because the ML/MN 2.5 100kw engines have no adjustment on their wastegate actuator rods.

you almost got my point, although its apparently not producing an extra 2psi, it is reading that on the scan gauge after the mod, which is why i ask, does the ecu see the extra 2 psi that the scan gauge see`s? as i could wind back the wastegate arm so i can turn the actual boost up higher. or if the ecu doesnt actually see this increase then it doesnt matter and i can leave it as is

I know the 'adjustment mod' is only applicable to the ML, but I'm pretty sure the info re chipIT boosting psi and then scan gauge not reading accurately is accurate for either model.

Happy to pull my head in though!

I thought to get more boost on the ML you needed a boost controller?

You were relating to the MN electronic controlled turbo in this post.
All good mate, you are correct in saying the chip it will give a false boost reading to the ecu, a boost gauge is required for correct readings.

Did this mod last night... removed the lock nut (not sure what it achieves there in the first place :? ) straight up, wound in the adjuster and the results have made me one happy chappy. ML 3.2 Auto is now more livelier and has dropped around 1.9L /100km :)

I owe the OP a beer or two - good find :)

My wastegate did seem a little loose (82K on the clock) to the point where I could move it back and forward with next to no pressure - have other people found the same thing with theirs?

You can use an intelligent stand alone "MAP sensor" voltage clamp if chasing over 20 psi with some waste gate arm adjustment (with in reason as they eventually bottom out and will overboost) or manual boost controller on the 4M41. 8-) Very effective with any chips (Injector or rail) and remaps that dont support map sensor emulsion. 8-)

For the ML 2.5 (wastegate turbo), the wastegate actuator is screwed to the compressor via Torx screws? Anyone know what size Torx wrenches are needed?

Since the rod has no adjustment like the 3.2, can washers be added just like those done in the older Pajeros with 4d56 and 4m40 engines?
