did mine this mornin, been drivin around all day and no probs so it seems harmless, my scangauge said no probems.

mine only went to 15.4 PSI, maybe i could have forced it another half turn... gonna change it back monday morning for the 30k service then back afterwards, not game enough to see if they notice... only takes a couple of minutes with a screw driver and a spanner. will also do the blanking plate after service.. she seems too sluggish!

thanks alex for the writeup, good little mod for $0 cost..

No its fine.. The blanking plate plus 2 odd psi make it a new machine... When my triton is up for the 7.5k service im leaving it az is. They can kiss my ass, If noticed ( which i doubt by the look of the little maltese kid apprentices i saw working at the dealer) Id say it was like that when i got it. Its completly un noticable visually , so the only way to check would be to actually check. They wouldnt do that as they are flat out changing an engine oil filter....

If this was not a work vehicle i wouldnt take it there at all. Im a mechanical engineer by trade and work on multi million dollar machines . Last vehicle i got new was a Mazda SP23 which never went even for its first free service,I complete and stamp all the service records. I dont trust dealers. Ive cought them out before as i witnes mark parts which are meant to be changed.

Where do these blanking plates come from that i have been reading about, are they something you guys are having made by your local engineering company or are they a mitsubishi part?

Do I need to blank off the EGR before I adjust the wastegate actuator?

No you can adjust it up for 2psi more boost any time...

The EGR plate is to stop farking black soot contaminating the inlet manifold..

Well I could not wait the week or two Snowman.

Tackled this MOD tonight as I was bored, Alex, awesome instructions, worked a treat.

So I have Buttgauge installed and was able to get 16.9 boost on the reading, it flashed 17.0 at one point but that may have just been the blurr of night as I was testing it on the first run.

Many thanks Alex for your tips and posts once again, whats next on the list ?

If one was to adjust the actuator until it had used all the thread, with out a scan gauge, would there be any problem other then not visually being able to see the difference?

I cant afford a scan gauge at the moment but I would like more power

i saw the scanguage went to 17 PSI once but that is the highest i have seen.

i am surprised how often the turbo PSI goes up to around 16 PSI or thereabouts even on moderate throttle levels - so it is definately cramming more air in on general driving.

all good so far. dont get me wrong it is a 'subtle' increase but it just makes the auto feel a little more positive and decisive some of which may be attributed to the EGR blanking that was done simultaneously :?: .

i cant help but feel that the adjustment would provide better results for those with 'chips' as they already have a fuel increase to go with this air increase. :?:

Definatly. Mine is now running at around the same power output as a pajero, bear in mind I'm running around 22psi. How much work is involved in this wastegate mod? The reason I ask is a boost controller can be had for around $30 and with a new vacuum hose you could swap between stock and boosted in about 2 minutes

just done mine,i removed the locking nut alltogether so i could get a few more mill down the rod, its easy to get the rod back on the flap iff you lever the rod with the little pressed nipples at the diafram end with a big flat head screw driver. didnt make any noticable performance gains though, mind i maybe able to tweek the t.d.c chip a bit more now :!: just watin for alex's blanking gasket to arive now.

The next step, to get a bit more boost, would be to run a die down the rod for 5 - 10mm and trim the end off the rod if it bottoms out when it's screwed in that far.
