Bash plate mounting brackets

Bash plate mounting brackets

Postby Buzzy on Mon Feb 08, 2010 2:23 pm

Guys,
As most of you know if you upgrade your bash plates to something more substantial eg: 3mm stainless, eventually you will have to upgrade the mounts aslo. Had my 30k service done last week and sure enough.........................crack!
Made some new mounts up and welded them on, all good now 8-)
Below is a pic of the bracket ready to be welded on, below that is the drg for them, enjoy :D

Nice work Buzzy - I've got a broken mount on mine - bash plates rattle like a bastard and sound like a 25 year-old Falcon with a busted shock absorber

How many of these new mounts are required? I haven't pulled the standard plates off yet but how do the new ones go in? Do they have to be welded in? I just wanna know what I am in for before I start the job.

Cheers mate! I thought they might have to be welded! I am installing my new buzzy 3mm stainless plates tomorrow! i have to get some high tensile bolts as well! Very much looking forward to the added protection! The 3mm stainless plates are bloody heavy.....this I like!

better off not using high tensile bolts. Use mild steel, this will be the weak point & save damage to mounting brackets in the event of a hard hit.

bolt them together. it is tricky but will work better than cable ties - which i am sure you were joking about.

Alco probably did it but only because he could not use nails. :P although he probably considered liquid nails......

Yep, broke both mounts on mine, haven't even hit the bash plate yet either

Took to it with the mig.. I'm making new out of 12mm flat bar, just drill, tap(Oversize bolts) and weld them on. Be strong as and simple to fab

i just had one of my missing mounts replaced by the smash repairer in my recent repair. (i supplied a mount that looked decidely similiar to Buzzy's drawing) ;) Thanks mate - don't forget you have a sydney based favour or two mate....... :D

anyway, he was also going to remove the other one with the grinder and weld on the new one. However, he did say the original mount looked quite solid but that it was only welded up the two sides and not along the bottom. as the base is probably where most the stress goes he has left it on and welded along the bottom likethe new one.

i will see how it goes. i had a massive dent in my plate that he bent back out for me and i dont even remember where i did it. :o

so those of you who can weld and are a bit proactive in maintenance - it might be a consideration to see if they hold long term and prevent them breaking off. easier than fabbing the whole bracket(s) and if it works then that is a bonus.
