Is there any evidence to suggest that the egr blanking is more successful on the 2.5 mn over the ml 3.2?

Yes and no.

Yes, they will normally run with out CEL's since software update about a year so ago.

No, as the blanking plate plays havoc with the VGT system and messes with air fuel more so than the 3.2.

The best alternative, often refereed as "ET mod" or "the resistor mod" (on this forum) works very well on all models.

I don't yet have Tony's mod but certainly plan on ordering and fitting it shortly based on my observations below which have been highlighted from previous details on this thread,

From reading my scan gauge in have noticed that the EGR does not come into play whilst the outside temp is below 7 degrees, whilst the outside air is below this temp my vehicle is so smooth to drive, once the outside temp is above this where I see the EGR opening based on the scan gauge readings I feel my car quite rough on low throttle, I do have the EGR blanking plate in and has been there for years now, however as tony says above the EGR blank does effect the air fuel ratios as the ecu believes the EGR to be working correctly.

I installed a blanking plate in my 2014 mn triton. So far no engine light, so much more responsive when it's bone cold. Still has that weird touchy throttle thing when cold but that terrible lag is all but gone. Too early to tell about fuel economy. I blocked it off as it enters the EGR cooler/heat exchanger as it was the easiest place to block it off. Idle is fine, revs fine and shut down is fine. Fingers crossed the engine light DOESNT come on.

However the 3" exhaust goes on Monday hopefully so might just let the egr flow.. My father in laws MN has 105,000 on it no manifold or egr problems just a turbo replaced recently that's it.

I'm hearing you, hard not to miss that in the last 10 pages lol

Still, the blanking plate cost me nothing and the performance gains in doing that alone are fantastic so I'm happy and wanted to convey that. :)

Egr blank on mn my15

Postby Bobojo on Mon Jul 28, 2014 12:34 pm

Got the egr blank plate, gonna drill 6mm hole in it and install it at the egr cooler under the pipe with the heat shield on it..
Has some one done this and know if it will bring on a cel or limp mode?? And is there much improvement it made? Thanks

It won't hurt it but it's hard to see how it's much different to buying a condom and then sticking it with a pin. The resistor mod involves fitting a resistor on one of the sensor wires to the MAF sensor and tricking the engine into never asking for EGR. Both the resistor mod and blanking have been covered extensively on the forum and we really didn't need yet another thread on blanks. I'll leave this thread unlocked to see if anyone gives you the link for the resistor mod and then will probably move this stuff onto one of the existing threads.

Did you test without drilling the hole first?
I have a blank (no hole) in a 2013 Triton, and hasnt given me a CEL yet. Best $2 I spent.

Too late. Done.

Thought it worthwhile to also add the following post, by Tony, with lead up, which may well get lost in the What I did Today thread. His comments are well worth considering:

You haven't read about the resistors on here then? EGR blank is a bit old school now, don't get me wrong, the blank will work but you do run the risk of CEL's and those sorts of annoying problems ;)

There are a few different solutions for resistors, depending on how much DIY you want to do, Tony's is the simplest and virtually a plug and play item ;)

You'll find all the info if you want to search for it 8-)

blank works fine. Judgeing by his avatar he has a mn. Good chance he has had the ecu reflashs so CELs are old school

Tony wrote: I normally keep a low profile on this, but times have moved on since MMAL's software update on underboost issues over a year ago. Allowing a full blank is only a side effect of the actual reason for the update being barometric pressure differences.

So true the blanking plates seem to run fine these days on the VGT equipped 4D56, but if you look at what happens to the EGTs, Air fuel ratio, fuel economy, cruise hunting etc. I'm not convinced its a good idea anymore. :| I actually threw all my blanks in the recycling ages ago as realized the blanking still upsets the engine management with the negative manifold or lower pressures.
When you tune these great engines, tossing the blank and using the AIT resistor idea makes gains and does so safely.

Yeah ok if the blanks are old Skool then what size resistor is needed for a mn triton? And has any one got a wiring diagram for the engine management system ? Would be handy thanks ;)

You need this thread:

As for the correct value, you sort of take your chances there.

Similar concept, just the kit you will receive is a lot more flexible and very user friendly.
