din slot storage tub on MN GLR

din slot storage tub on MN GLR

Postby patrolus on Wed Aug 25, 2010 4:25 pm

hey guys
just trying to install my uhf and scangauge in the empty din slot in the glr mn triton.
(storage compartment underneath the heating control knobs and above the cig lighter.)
looks like the best spot for the uhf, problem is that i can't get the bloody thing out?!? (at least not without breaking anything.)
when looking up from the footwell it doesn't look like it is NOT held by screws, but before i start breaking stuff i might wait a while and see if anyone has actually removed the storage thingydybob before??!!

great-full for any advice

There was another thread a week or 3 ago about precisely this issue. Maybe a slightly different model spec but it was the same DIN slot I'm sure. There was also a thread the other day where Nowforthe5th posted an exploded diagram out of one of the manuals showing how to remove the two dash panels, one below the heater controls and one above (and including). If you can't find it post on here and I can do a search. Also if it turns out that 5th's post was about the ML I can find the equivalent diagram for the MN. I remember it so well because I jokingly asked if Chris could do housecalls and in response he typed up a very detailed step by step that made me realise how out of my depth I was last time I started pulling bits off my truck.

Here's part of one for the MN. Will have to wait til I get home to find anything like what Chris had for the ML.

I know I've made the right choice leaving stuff inside the dash panels to the experts when I looked at those diagrams and came away none-the-wiser about how to remove anything.
I guess if I can't even understand the diagram, then it's probably a good thing that I not try doing the actual work.

oh oh aua. :x
tio, u r right mate.
half way there but the rest :?: :?: :?:
i am just too bloody scared to try my luck with these big clips (that don't want to give their secret away how to unlock em....) plus the amount of shit that they tucked away behind the dash is ..well..."disturbing" , "overwhelming", "annoying", #AAARRRGGGGHHHH# :D
guess i ll try and leave the bloody din slot compartment in there, drill a hole in the back of it and just feed my wires for the uhf and scangauge through the hole. and then somehow glue it all in
i just hate that kind a stuff. hangin head down in the footwell knowing every hasty move will cause $800 damage....... hopefully i will find the patience to finish it all today and then we can look forward to the "real" stuff, something that requires heavy tools and not eagle eyes, doin a handstand, holding a torch, whilst wearing satin gloves, only to realize u scratched the sh... out of the bloody plastic anyway..... .....

off to get the big drill out
