Rear ladder rack using mn sportsbar (ml tub)

Rear ladder rack using mn sportsbar (ml tub)

Postby jop on Mon Nov 22, 2010 5:03 pm

Thought of this a while ago - The triton sportsbar fitted backwards is dead straight, with the mount having the correct angle for the tub - so it would work as a light 'ladder' rack

I had grabbed joes ml sportsbar to try it out, but the weld would be very messy to cut and try and keep neat.
The mn sportsbars unbolt, making it dead easy to fit, it even has rubber feat for protecting the tub.

I picked up the bar locally for $30, took off the side arms - 1 allen key bolt either side and had a test fit on the tri-trailer.
Two bolts in the tub either side and the jobs done.

I reckon the bars would look really good powdercoated black with a rola vortex rack fitted to them

Nice work jop. Really good edition to the tri-trailer (which is gonna look funny behind a Colorado).

//Anybody want an ML sports bar? Pick up from jops place :D

//BTW - if you have any old Triton parts kicking around, jop is happy to store them at his place

I am going to ignore Queenslander's comment..haha...haha...hardyhaha

But Jop, what if you shortened the length of the upright bars and were able to mount it directly to the lid ?

Or are going to modify the lid to close around it ?
I know then you will be restricted on opening the lid but just an idea.

Still waiting on details qlderrrrrr. Should know next week. Already have a few people interested, so shouldn't be hard to sell

I was just playing with it all Daryn, if i was to keep the triton, it would have the racks powdercoated black with rola vortex rack fitted to them - no hardlid.

I thought about putting the rear rack on the lid, but i need to carry ladders, so no opening lid without taking off ladders - wouldn't work for me.
The mn bar actually has tapped holes in the base - so fitting it to a lid would be a piece of piss - the lid is very rounded near the edges though.
If anyone is thinking about this - i can take some pics

that looks tough jop. i never was keen on the black out of the chrome, but as more people do it, it is growing on me. Will leave mine polished though, but the effect a lot are getting from the black out is impressive

This rack is coming off the ute soon, i'm taking the ute back to near stock for it's sale.

It has been great with a few trips out west with ladders and a trip to moreton island loaded up with no movement and lots of positive comments.
