Made and installed spacers to fix shudder

Postby GLX-RSilver on Thu May 15, 2008 10:42 am

hey there i made and installed my spacers to fix the shudder problem that tritons have with lifted suspension. It seems to work i haven't noticed any bad vibrations but only drove around the block. Big test is taking it to work tomorrow. Any ideas whether i should place a spacer under the transfer case mount?
Cheers

Hey Gfm no don't need any new bolts there is just enough with the factory bolts.

Hey jacko i'll post the measurements and photos on the weekend just want to make sure they work as i didn't drive my car after my lift until the spacers where fitted. Cheers

I spaced my gearbox up 5mm by using flat bar, mine had quite a bad shudder, its still there, but about half of what it was. im interested to know if this spacer is gonna solve all our problems.

nah silver, as far as ingenuity goes, for me there is a big difference between jacking up a gearbox and adding 5mm and having the ability to machine up a spacer for the tailshaft.

I've made a transfer case spacer today as well as 5 degree leaf spring wedges which i'll fit on the weekend to see how it goes. Yes it may go away but has anyone felt the centre bearing after a long drive if it's hot then damage is being done and won't last i know mind was warm after a 50km drive. So i'll keep on working on it until i fix the problem. My cars still new only has 2000kms on the clock so i don't really want any vibrations even if it's slight. Cheers

Nice work GLX RSilver!! very keen to hear how it all goes.. it would be nice to have it drive right.. i was going to try a tailshaft spacer but it seems more is needed.. the 3 degree wedges didnt do alot....... a slip joint on the tailshaft might be a go ??? :)

Hey there saurus a 1 piece tailshaft is a great idea just like the auto tritons except for the bloody cross member in the way holding up that centre bearings. As far as i know i think the auto tritons have a different chassis.

the tough dog suspension kit has been "coming out in 2 months" for the last 12 months, glad i gave up on it and went dobbos. by the time it comes out we should have a 4"

if i blow up my tail shaft a 1 peice will be going in its place..
had one made up for my 300zx for $550 to handle 600hp by final drive oconnor

oh and to date ive tried 1,2,3,4,5 degree castor wedges.. 4-5 degrees end up making the pinion angle 0 degrees which is wrong.. id say 2.5 might be the go.. but as i said i gave up.. i think i have 3 degree in there at the moment (thats at 55mm lift)

Hey there tritor i made and fitted 5 degree wedges on the weekend as well as fitted all the gearbox spacers and tailshaft spacer. I have a slight shudder on take off then nothing it.
Before i fitted the wedges i checked my tailshaft angles they where front tailshaft 6' rear tailshaft 9' and diff pinion 3' and after fitting the transfer spacer and diff wedges it's now 6' front 8' rear tailshaft and 7' for diff pinion so nearly there. I'm thinking of raising the gearbox the full 8mm not 5 to see how it is then. But firstly i going to check my mates standard triton to see what factory angles are.
Cheers

Rambo it sounds like you should be looking at airbags to help with your load with the camper so you can still run around without it.

Do a search on here mate I know a couple of blokes have them but cant recall who.
