MN Triton HID upgrade

All the steps in one place with biased opinions to boot ;)

1. Remove the grill http://www.newtriton.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9174&p=186285#p186281
2. Remove the conector from the back of the headlight globes. Just pull straight back.
3. Remove the rubber boot. Just peal it off.
4. OPTIONAL: Remove the headlights http://www.newtriton.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8406&p=162850&hilit=headlight+removal#p162692
You don't have to but mounting options for the balasts are very limited. By not removing the headlights (not enough time) I also figured I would not mess up the current aim. :)
5. Remove the globes by releasing the wire clip, push in and up. If you are not sure you can see the end by looking in through the front of the headlight.
6. My kit allowed the reflector to be removed from the globe with a twist and pull.Click to view larger picture This meant I could prefit the rubber boot to the plastic shaft holding the reflector. You can work out which way it goes on as the boot has top written on it.

7. Insert the HID globe, twist and lock

8. I flicked the boot inside out to allow the wire clip to lock into position fairly easily. If the bottom short part of the wire clip catches the boot, just press it down and then toward the headlight.

9. Flick the boot back to shape and seat it on the headlight. ( Photo might look different if you have it removed from the car in optional point 4.)

10. Run the main cable from your attachment point, I used a spare hole,
under the headlight across the top of the intercooler (zip tie in place) through to the driver's side headlight.
11. Fit the balasts under the headlights (if you removed them) or choose another convenient spot like the battery box for example. Click to view larger picture
12. Connect up all the cables to the appropriate plugs, +ve and -ve to the battery. There is also a nice earth point on the drivers fender next to the air cleaner box for the driver's side.
13. OPTIONAL. Reinstall the headlights if you removed them
14. Make sure all the cables a zip tied down
15. Test. It works right
16. Replace the grill
17. Admire your work and have a beer.
18. If you do get a flash from a friendly driver you may need to adjust the headlights a tad (Recommended by others in their posts) and naturally enough its nicely documented how to do it here -> http://www.newtriton.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8198&p=156953&hilit=headlight+adjustment#p156851

i did the same, same kit.

only thing i did different was step 1 have a beer and step 9 have a beer lol.

i made up a aluminium tab for mounting on the drivers side. sticks directly over the intake port into the airbox. it will piss the blokes doing my snorkel install off tho so big apologies there to OutOfTown4wd.

one thought i had was how do to the balasts get?

MN Triton HID upgrade

Mine is very similar too except I have a tangled spaghetti of 5 ballasts in front of the battery.

Told myself I would sort it out later :)

MN Triton HID upgrade

Great light! Very glad I did the upgrade with a quality product. All the parts feel substantial and well made, the plugs just excellent. Big improvement to the standard offering from Mitsu.
Thanks for organizing it with your mate.

Use a pair of bent, long nose pliers to grab the clip wire and hook it under the little tab. It is very difficult with the lights in the car. I did it with the lights out - doesn't take long to remove them and you can see that the bulb is properly seated.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

I ended up getting it, When i turn em on, they are really bright for a little like 5 seconds, and then go a little bit dimmer. Still awesome but yeah? Im thinking loose earths maybe,

Also the bulbs themselves a little bit of play to them, side to side, The actualy mounts they sit in are firm as since I got the clip in properly after a bit haha,

thinking about taking the light out and make suring its all sweet.

Crappy ballasts. Don't worry, they'll cark it soon enough and then you can get some good ones. My HIDs, and I'm running 50w ballasts with Philips 85122+ bulbs in proper HID projectors, flash bright for maybe half a second then reach full brightness within about 3 seconds. There are faster ballasts but these have proven reliable and I've sold plenty. What's the difference?

Im going to mount all the ballasts. and the relay right now, Just got back from work. And see how they go, Cause I think they may have been just being bumbed too much while driving. If I mount them and still dimming.. Can I get a set of the 52 ballasts? How much?

Cheers for the info bro.
