Tyre sizing in inches e.g. 31" refers to the overall diameter of the tyre. So, a 265/75R16 has an overall diameter of 804mm which is 31.6". Close enough to 32".

all correct except i think you will find MN stock alloys are 7.5" wide.
ML alloys were 7"

265/65 is what I run and is also the highest you can go in NSW and remain legal. I reckon it's a good size. 265/70/17 is also not bad but ever so slightly over the legal size.
The bridgestone D697 is a good AT for on road performance. I run the D694 which is the previous model and a few of the guys have recently switched to the 697 and rate them just as highly.
