On a few Facebook pages it is hard to give away standard tyres and rims. Maybe $200 to $300 for what you have.

Grey Nomad Caravan pages might be the place to sell them.

A guy on a Ranger page paid $500 for rims and tyres 1500km another got offered $600 for tyres with 800km trade in at a Bob Jane store. Ring a round.

Thanks for your help lads. Just got quoted $980 for 4 Duelers 265/65 fitted. Seemed like a more substantial tyre

Which Dueler? D674, D673, D604V, D697 or D693?

Sorry the $980 was not for the D697. The D697 265/ 65 17 are $259 per

I sold 10k old standard tyres for $400. Normally they are $250 fitted so i thought $100 each was fair. They sold on gumtree in under 24hrs.

My new muddies were $205 each so i was pretty happy.

Yeah i'll try $100 each and see how i go.. Might get lucky.

After chatting with the tyre supplier it makes more sense to go 265/65/17 AT's rather than 245/70/17 really because its a more common tyre size which makes it cheaper to buy. My next question is, will i be able to fit a 265/70/17 on the standard GLXR rims? I figure if I'm going for the wider tread i may as well go the higher side walls. Still want to be aware of fuel consumption though but I'm pretty sure the 245/70/17 will be similar to 265/70/17. There is no doubt the Tritons look great with a bigger wheel in those massive wheel arches

He also mentioned that it was really strange that Mitsi went with the 245/65 from factory considering the Triton was designed to run on the 265/65 tyre. Also stated that the 245/65 was such an uncommon size that no one wanted..

Tyre Survey

Postby trouble on Wed Sep 30, 2015 7:01 am

Looking at new tyres soon, can someone with D697's tell me how they go with weight. I constantly carry 300kgs in the tub and when I go away I tow 2T.

My Cooper st Maxx didn't enjoy that amount of weight on them.

Or if someone may be able to help with another tyre brand that may handle the weight.

I recently put some Dick Cepek 265/70/16 Trail Countries on. They have been brilliant so far. One thing i have noticed however is i get a lot more steering wheel wobble than i did with the HT's

i assume it is because there is more rubber on the ground?

Has anyone else noticed a big change in the feedback through the steering wheel ?

I wouldn't have thought it should be noticeable at all in that size. Sounds more like it isn't balanced properly.

Hey Maxiy,

I posted this on another thread but maybe relevant to your issue. My tyres are 265/70/17's

"I had MT tyres put on then a balance and alignment. I then found when I got to around 110km/hr on the highway I had massive steering shake. Below that speed was fine and there was no pull to either side.

Recently I took off both front, painted the rims and then swapped left to right. Did the same for the rear.
Now I have no steering shake at 110km/hr."

hmmm interesting.

It does not wobble when driving on smooth road only when you hit an imperfection or something. Not saying that the HTs did not wobble when hitting a bump or lump in the road, just that these seem to give ALOT more feedback than the HTs did

May check the alignment and balancing

Tyre pressures? Going from 40psi to 36 made a huge difference for me.
Bump steer..nice....I'll use that in my endeavor to get my wife approved suspension upgraded :D

Thanks Snoozy, they are currently at 40PSI  which is what the tyre dealer put in them and what they recommend for road use. I thought it was quite high, HTs were recommended for 32. BUT i know NOTHING about tyres so i shall take bob janes word for it

Will play with lowering a little and see what happens

Was taught set it to 34psi ish. Drive for a half hour and check. If it's gone up more than 4 psi you need more air. Up less than 4 psi drop down a bit. Worked so far in all my 4wd

wheel size

Postby keno351 on Sat Oct 03, 2015 9:54 am

i have a 2015 mn auto with std 16 inch wheels, does it make much difference when you put on 17 inch wheels, such as ground clearance and gear ratios, i was in some really boggy sand a while ago and bottomed out a few times and thought would 17 inch wheels make much of a change, thanks
