Tyre Survey

But as stated in other threads, it is most likely an illegal size to be running on your car.

Doesnt bother me, I have 33s ;)

Hey T-Dogga,
this link http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/c792a ... icles2.pdf
go to page 11 of 18: "The rim diameter may be varied from the standard size
but the overall diameter of the tyre must not vary by
more than +15mm or -26mm."

I went with 255/70/16 as it stays legal on the GL-R.

OD on standard 245/70/16 OD of 751mm, 255/70/16 is 764mm, 265/70/16 is 779, 265/75/16 is 808mm

nice i will probably go with the 265/70/16. Are you able to put these tyres on without a lift?

Yep, easily mate. Not a problem.

You CAN fit up to 265/75/16 without a lift and not have any problems :D

Size: 265/65/17
Brand: Hankook R10 ATM
Style: A/T
Handle on road: Just got them on and seems to be good. Less roll when cornering than the stock tires. Minimal noise on highway which is great
Handle off Road: On gravel they seem to bite into the road fairly well. In sand they did well also. Have not tried mud yet.
Wear & Tear: First trip on a farm with these tyres and I copped a stick in the sidewall. I think it was just bad luck, or me choosing the wrong place to drive as the stick was nail sharp and tough. 30 bucks to fix it so all good. :D :D
Price: $295.00
Does Spare fit Y/N: Yes
Overall Diameter: 776.22

Brand: Bridgestone

Style: D694LT (All-Terrain)

Size: 265/65-17

Diameter: 774mm

Price: $295 each fitted

Ride: firm but not harsh

Handling: Excellent on road, not a mud tyre but very good in rocky, loose and gravelly country. Very good on dirt roads with reassuring control. Seems to resist cuts and rock damage pretty well.

Noise: Very quiet on road.

Wear: Too soon to tell but a mate has these on a Patrol and are half worn at 45000km's.

Buy again? I think so, I'll see how they hold up

Tyre Survey

What Size; 265/75/16 (32)

Brand; Cooper Stt

Style; muddie

Handle on Road; little road noise for a mud tyre. Handle very good on road and in the wet.

Handle off road; Good all round offroad, but my bighorns are better in the mud

Price per tyre; I paid $170ea 2nd hand 95% tread

Wear & Tear; I did about 30k with them on and they went from 14mm to 8mm or about 55%. I would have been annoyed had I paid $350 for them new and they only lasted that long. As a mud tyre with less that 50% is getting close to useless.

Tyre Survey

Postby UAV on Tue Mar 22, 2011 7:20 pm

What Size; 255/85/16 (33.3)

Brand; maxxis bighorn

Style; muddie

Handle on Road; little noisy on road. Handle pretty good for a 33" muddie on road and not much different to the coopers in the wet.

Handle off road; Sensational offroad. The bag extremely well when aired down and provide excellent traction in doing so. Had them on in the high country recently where a mate had new 285 coopers and his were all cut up after a few rocky tracks and the bighorns were hardly damaged at all.

Price per tyre; I paid approx $180 each 2nd hand 95%

Wear & Tear; only done about 5k on them and seem to be wearing well. But these are not my daily tyres.

I went to 265/65-17's on my MN as it is a much more common tyre size (same as Prados i believe). The D694LT's were $295 each fitted. I was going to go the 255's but as you have found availability was a big issue.

Well I'll just update my tires as of now.

Size:- 265/75R16
Brand:- Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Rib
Style:- All Terrain
Handle on Road:- Handled wonderfully on road in dry and wet, getting a little bit lackluster now (they do only have 4 - 5 mm tread left).
Handle off road:- Handled great off road for an AT, was very pleased actually. Sand they were awesome and did fairly well in everything but thick mud, in which case they did cake up a bit (as the tread blocks are fairly close together).
Price per tyre:- I paid $270ea (if I can remember correctly) about a year and a half ago I assume
Wear & Tear:- I've gotten around 70,000 out of them, and they weren't rotated more than twice and as yoda would say "some skids, they did do" , so was very happy with that. Getting changed over soon with these babbies sitting in the shed --->

Size:- 265/75R16
Brand:- Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar
Style:- Mud Terrain
Handle on Road:- Don't know, but will update as soon as they've done some k's
Handle off road:- Don't know, but will update as soon as they've done some k's
Price per tyre:- I paid $1200 for 4 tyres including fitting and balancing, considering I was quoted $390 a tyre PLUS fitting and balancing two weeks ago I am definately happy with that.
Wear & Tear:- Don't know, but will update as soon as they've done some k's

245/65-17's. With 265/65-17's the speedo is 102kmh at 100kmh on the gps. Stock tyres are about 6-7 kays out.

Has anyone with the wrangler silent armor have any issues with easy punctures due to the 2 ply walls?

Have just been looking through the Toyota website and both Prado (GLX) and Hilux (SR5 diesel) have some models with 265/65-17. Good sign for those who intend to travel into areas where tyre size availability is limited to what ever comes on a Toyota.

Was quoted $325 for this size in BFG AT. Small increase but still legal in all states so far as I can work out :)

Size: 285/75/16
Brand: Mickey Thompson MTZ
Style: M/T
Handle on road: So far all is good
Handle off Road: Excellent
Wear & Tear: 42 966kms Wear as followed (FL 10mm - FR 9.5mm, RL 9.5mm - RR8mm)
Price: $315.00
Does Spare fit Y/N: Never
Overall Diameter: 841.3mm

All i have done is flipped the fronts and never rotated any - as the 2 rears cant be balanced (supposedly a known problem with Mud Terrains) Im very pleased with the wear, still above 50% and have done alot of kms....

No issues so far, been on for 8 mths. I only do low k's as I live close to work.
Have done a few trips but nothing too extreme & never had a puncture. Make sure you get the USA version of the wrangler.

The only problem I have had is that they can get a little loose on takeoff in the wet. Not sure if this is normal or due to the extra grunt from the chip ;)

If you go goodyear take the $5/tyre insurance option. It covers sidewall & other damage for the life of the tyre. Very good value in my opinion.

The other one to look at is the Duratrac, it is getting very good reports from those that have them.
