I'll be interested to watch those tyres Fraz as they won the 4wd action tyre comparo a while back but they don't seem a very popular tyre despite that.

I have recently bought a set of Goodyear Wranger MTR's 285/75/16

i have taken them off road a few times not yet had to lower pressures and i'm quite happy with them, perform well on dirt, rocky country and mud, only been stuck once but was sloshy as all hell, mates 79 with 33 mickeys also got stuck.

overall for price and performance i love them.

My bf goodridge all terrain 275 70 16 have been the best tyres i fitted to my 100 series cruiser - particularly on road in any condition wet or dry. They are notably good in sand. ( launch my boat on sand and rarley need to reduce pressure) they are fantastic I would definitely buy again with around 80,000km from last set.

I have a 2010 GLX-R, I'm struggling to find tyres that are good off road & on, 50-50 or 60-40 tyres that will keep me legal in NSW. If my research is correct I can only go 15mm over ODI & 25mm wider in NSW.

So I have the stock rims & tyres for the GLX-R 245-65-17. But am looking to go to a 16inch rim to get a better range of tyres, 245-70-16.

If I go 16inch I can get LT's in Bridgestone 697, BFG AT KO, Pirelli Scorpion ATR.
If I stay with 17inch I can get Bridgestone 697 255-65-17.
Any other tyres or ideas would be nice.

Was thinking of getting the BFG AT, but after reading some reviews about how bad slippery & hard the rubber gets, I'm now not sure.

forget the legalities. cooper stmaxx or wrangler duratrac are what you are after in 17's.

I think I've finally worked the legalities out - if I still have the original rims then I must use the tyre size listed in the placard. If I change rims then I can start to adjust tyre size within the relevant limitations. The increase in wheel track up to 25ml sounds like it is only allowable if I have put new rims on. And the outside diameter being within 15ml is the same. Or am I reading it wrong and you can change the tyres as long as you stay within the allowable limits because it is referring to the wheel and tyre "package". But further down the page where it refers to tyres specifically it says we should stick to the placard... I'm buggered if I know

Then there's VSB14 which is a national document not yet strictly adopted in NSW that says 50mm increase in diameter for commercial and 4wd vehicles...

Except where vehicle is fitted with esc.

Then you have to get approval from the manufacture that any changes within the code will NOT disrupt the operation of the vehicle safety systems

Brand? BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A

Style? LT, Aggressive AT

Handle on Road? (Grip/noise) Arguably quieter than the stock duellers. grip is fantastic, just have to find what the best pressure is for them (currently running 40psi all round, and the tyre is a little too rounded for my liking)

Handle off road? For an AT tyre they're fantastic. couple of friends have the Coopers ATR's and the BFG makes mince-meat out of the ATR.

Wear & Tear? Have only done about 1000kms so far, but the nipples are still all there, so can't complain about them. That being said, a friend's dad got 120,000kms out of a set on a '00 100series. drove around Aus. about 5 or 6 times with them, and still uses two of them as the spares.

Would you buy again? They are pricey (cheapest i could find was $330/tyre) but if they last as long as those on the 100series then i'll definitely consider them. Also depends on whether or not I decide i want a more aggressive style (MT/Crawler) or not.

Well, after 98,000kms I've retired the BFG's. All four tyres were still perfectly legal, with the worst about 2mm off needing replacement. I've kept the best two (5mm and 4mm) as spares in case something happens to the new tyres.

The biggest issue with these (that I found anyway) is how quickly they harden. For the first 20,000kms they're great, grip extremely well in all conditions. After that though, driving in the wet is like driving on ice half the time. It's not fun when you don't know whether you'll be able to turn or not, although they never let me down when I needed to stop in a hurry. They took me most places the guys with muddies would go, and in that time only had 1 puncture and 1 sidewall go bang.

Would I buy them again? Maybe. If I was constantly on dirt roads then yes, but driving on bitumen most of the time makes them a little undesirable.

That's exactly what I found when I had them on a Pajero, Offroad they where great, wear was fantastic but after a few years they got slippy in the wet on road. Also expensive to buy initial outlay, but a good longterm investment.

So for those of us with an MN we are snookered? Unless we can get approval from MMA. Has anyone tried this? I was thinking with the amount of MN's running about with 265's quite safely you would think it wouldn't be too hard to get approval. Although then I supposed it comes down to liability in an accident without millions being put into development and testing

2011 MN GLX-R Manual LT245/70 R17 119 load rating, BF Rugged on factory alloys GLX-R, No Lift, except for a 4 mm strut top shim,TMR shockers-Koni Heavey track, No front bar, no canopy.

Bob Jane Put 40 psi front and rear, and was was un-impressed the ride was terrible.

Emailed BF who provided a table of pressures for application and speeds. EG:
Unladen Highway: 85+kph 31F 31 R Laden 34F 46R
Unladed X Country 70-85kph 28F 28R Laden 30F 40R
Unladed X Country 55-70kph 25F 25R Laden 27F 37R
Unladed X Country 40-55kph 23F 23R Laden 25F 33R
Unladed Mud and Sand 25-40KPH 23R 23F Ladedn 23F 31R

I was advised I may need to adjust around these numbers to suit my driving style.

I found Highway 31F 31r bit soft so have ended up running for the moment 33F 32 R
Seems ok in the wet, stopping is fine, cornering fine, speedo just a little under GPS at 100kph so I'm still good to go by speedo. Back still waddels about so I'm up for an Ultimate rear sway bay, and I recon I'm done.
Overall a little more road feedback, a little tram tracking on road suface changes, little skitty on the gravel, quite-pleasant sound of tyres just enough to here them so you know your driving a 4wd.

MT

I have been running them since the Triton was new. Have been out and about all over the Top End most weekends, and the tyres have been very impressive.

Quiet on the road.
Amazing handling both on and offroad.

I have just ordered a set of General Grabber AT2, in a 265/70r17,

Have been pondering for a while which way to go as my BFG A/T have done well over the 85000km and couldnt be happier with them. But the price was the one thing that made me look elsewhere.

So the Continental Rep has all but given me a guarantee they will last as long as the BFG and will out perform also. and also $100 cheaper per tyre.

So in time i shall see how well they go.

Size- P265/65 R17

Brand- Bridgestone D697

Style- A/T

Handle on Road- (Grip/noise) Brilliant, smooth and comfortable at 38psi, no slipping in the wet

Handle off road- Not great, hopeless in mud, but pretty good on loose surfaces like gravel and sand

Wear & Tear- Have done about 70,000 on them so far and still have around 30 left in them, however replacing them as the lease is up in April, and last chance to get free tyres under contract as long as there is 6 months before lease end

Would you buy again? I am, however I will go down a size (255/65 R17) to get back some fuel economy.

Size- P245/70 R16

Brand- Bridgestone D697

Style- A/T

Handle on Road- (Grip/noise) Brand new today, seems good, very low noise, very light steering now with no brake shudder (must have had a "lump" or "flat spot" in the old tyres).

Paid $225 each fitted and balanced.

After 53,000 km I am about to get rid of these. They still have a couple of mm tread left. Looks like ill replace them with the newer version D697, unless I can find a more aggressive tread for reasonable $
VERY happy with their performance, hopefully the 697's live up to the marketing and are even better.

ive done bout 3k on the d697s. To early for a review but crap on the HTs

I've done 25k on mine and happy with them. Haven't done too much mud in them but great on road and dirt roads.

Did have 1 side wall puncture last weekend but figure it could happen to any tire considering the track I was on. Didn't see what spiked it tho.

Is anyone able to give me any feedback or advice on MAXXIS AT980 275/65/17, I can't seem to find a thread on them.
I'll be fitting my Ultimate suspension lift kit next week and soon after I'll be looking for tires to complete the package.
I've been led to believe the AT980's are a BFG A/T pattern with gaps which are a little wider, also the compoud is meant to be a little softer.
