Go muddies - you will always wish you had, if you don't ;)

I ran 6 different tyre combos on my ml  , the mud countries were the equal best on road along with the D694's

Cooper st's, goodyear atr's are shit at everything, km2's were a great rock tyre, bighorn's are a good budget muddie that does everything well.

My colorado has BFG a/t's and i hate them, the pajero still has the Mud Countries.

All IMO of course ;)

Bit off topic, sorry mods :?

I'm running full time muddies... Ive got no complaints. Go the bighorn 764- noisy at first but then settle down. After 17K kms.. I cannot complain. My only regret is not getting them in 265's. I was concerned like you but once I had done it I didnt regret it. Ive heard many, many good things about the BFG kM2's onroad manners to compliment their offroad awesomeness!

Brand? Maxxis Bighorn

Style? (L/T,A/T, Claws, M/T) M/T

Handle on Road? (Grip/noise) Good in dry and not to noisy, better than the stock dueller's in the wet

Handle off road? (Grip/Noise) bloody awesome :D

Price per tyre? (if you want) $310 fitted and balanced

Wear & Tear? (how are they wearing) These tyres wear evenly and very easily get good km's so long as regular rotation, balance and alignments are done

Well after almost 2 1/2 years and 80,000 km's I've renewed my maxxis bighorns today with another set :D

These are rated as 20% on road and 80% offroad but for me they are a dedicated do anything, go anywhere tyre and have seen may thousands of tarmac km's and never missed a beat :P

I've never had a flat or popped a bead so for all these reasons I just couldn't look past getting another set 8-)

I'd highly recommend these to anybody in the market for an excellent M/T tyre.

/ Surprisingly they cost $308 per corner now also 8-)

I changed from 694 AT's to a bigger MT. Was very indecisive with the change to the Muddies, but not looking back now.

Running a set of MAXTREK 265/70R17 121Q MUD TRAC and couldn't be happier.

Only gripe is fuel consumption went up by 1.5l / 100. but that was expected anyway.

Quiet on road, fairly good on sand still and pretty good on the mud.
Handling on road is still really good, and little or no slip and slide in the wet.
Had a little bit of back end slide in extremely muddy rutty climb on the weekend, but as I would rate these as 60 /40 Mud to Road, rather than 80 / 20 - I was still impressed. Saying that though I didn't air down, so that would have helped.

For $175 per tyre, unfitted or $199 fitted, bloody cheap enough to buy 6 at a time.
Now I just have to find another 17inch rim!

Just about to replace my Bridgestone AT LT 265/70/16 694's with the new 697 version. $279 fitted and balanced at Bob Jane Hobart.

Go outback for a few months every year with off road campertrailer and not one issue or puncture. The 694's have done 60,000K's, plenty of tread left. Reason for upgrade is that I am fitting 16' rims (previously 15"s) to the camper trailer and using the old tyres so that everything is interchangable.

Interesting to hear this, I tried putting 694s on my work truck (Pajero) and the 697s were the only ones available. I have heard the 694s were a much better tyre than fhe 697. I cover vast terrain in all sorts of conditions, 5 punctures with one requiring replacement total tyre life span of 20k.

The 697s held well on the tar but not much chop in the bush nor did they like fire trails. Just about every tyre had small splits right the way round it. I replaced them with Cooper AT3, they did 12k before getting a new truck. No issues at all or signs of wear. I will admit though they don't handle as good in the wet on the tar.

The new truck has just got some Cooper ST MAXX.

All tyres are in a LT compound.

Huh, I have the 697's and have had them for over a year. I think they're a good tire. Haven't had any issues and have gone the same places as people with different tires. Haven't done too much mud.

I thought the design was similar but it was slightly changed to improve the wear, as in wear in a uniform way to prevent road noise...

Bridgestone told me it was about wear and road noise with the 694's as Bob has said...more square shoulder on the 694.

I guess time will tell on the 697's as the 694 were a great tyre.

We all have different experiences, I personally wouldn't put them in the same class as Mickey Thompson/Coopers. Then again people bag those tyres too, I guess you stick with what you are happy with.

I am going to keep a record of the ST MAXX, wish I had done the same with the 697s to show people what I am talking about.

Model - 2010 GLX-R with the ultimate 2" comfort lift

What Size - 265/70 R17 121Q

Brand - Cooper - S/T maxx

Style - 50 road/sand + 50 mud

Handle on Road? Grip - ok, not as good as the pirelli. Noise - little bit with the windows down, and just hear it over the wind noise from the roof racks

Handle off road? Haven't got to try them yet

Price per tyre? $400 per tyre (brought all five due the jump in size)

Wear & Tear - pretty good for 27km  still got the little injection points hangin off them

2012 MN GLXR

What Size: 265/65 R17

Brand: Continental CrossContact AT

Style: AT

Handle on Road: Appears to be good. Quiet, smooth ride and handles much better then the standard HT tyres

Handle off road: Too soon to tell. Update later

Price per tyre: $200

Wear & Tear: Brand new.

Doesnt appear that anyone else here is using them based on search results, so it looks like I'm pioneering them for NTN. Given the very low price point due to knowing a tyre dealer, I thought I'd give them a go, especially since they are in a legal size thats bigger than standard.

If they end up being crap, its a only $1000 mistake compared to the cost of other tyres.

Im still struggling with what to do.
Running pirelli scorpion a/t's 265/70/16 at the moment, they are wearing so need to upgrade soon.
Looking at the cooper maxx 265/75/16's but since most of my offroad driving will be done on sand but i am finding that I am doing more track driving as time goes. Im worried that they are to aggressive for beach driving but not aggressive enough for rocky, muddy tracks.
My other option is to go with two sets, a/t's and muddies but that would be a huge cost.
hmmmm... decisions, decisions.
Bruno.

2011 MN GLXR

What Size: 265/65 R17

Brand: Mickey T STZ

Style: AT

Handle on Road: Pretty good, massive improvement over Stock HT tyres - particularly in the wet (although that isn't saying much, stock is terrible)

Handle off road: Only been on 100k's, so not yet seen dirt.

Price per tyre: $385 - seems pricey I know but that includes free rotation and balance for the life of the tyre every 10000k's, plus I had had dealing with the blokes supplying them before and knew they were pretty upfront.

Wear & Tear: Brand new.

How noisy are BFG KM2 over BFG AT? How safe are the KM2 on wet tarmac? Been thinking about getting KM2 because they look tuff but am concerned about the above two points.

I'm about to get a set of General Grabber AT2's for mine in 265/70R16, any ideas on how much it will effect the economy? I have a Petrol manual, and on a decent run get between 11 and 12l/100.

I just had four Hankook Dynapro AT/Ms put on mine @ $230 each. Thought I'd give them a go as, tbh. I have tried Coopers (Pretty happy with their performance) & Wranglers... :( on my previous vehicle (not a Triton) and that was for going outback but a lot of my driving in the next 12 to 24 months is on 'taaahhhh' and maybe a bit of well formed gravel roads.

So, no real need for an LT rated tyre. :)

Just got a set of BFG Rugged Terrain's in 265/75R16 fitted yesterday. Paid $260ea F&B. Was gonna go with cooper AT3's but could not justify the extra cost.

Must say very impressed so far. Had rain all day today and have not had any wheel spin at all on the bitumen. Took the long way home tonight through a wet slippery dirt road and it handled superbly. They are also dead quiet.

I could light the the old Bridgestone H/T's up in 3rd on smooth dry bitumen, and they still had heaps of tread left, absolutely hated those tyres.

A definite improvement to the vehicle. Upgrading the size has also given me and extra 30mm of height and has made the speedo spot on with the gps speed.

Fitted a set of kumho KL78s. 245/75-16 LTs 120Q.
$219.00 each fitted and balanced. Bob Jane - Mt Ommaney Brisbane.
Some city, some touring. See how they go.
Had a good run with them on the previous NK pajero, Strezleki couple of times, Birdsville track, Savanah way etc. Went through a couple of sets. Generally got 70,000k.
