15" wheels

Postby Tryton08 on Tue Sep 04, 2012 9:46 pm

Just wondering what people think.
I have a set of 15" sunraysias with Maxis Trepadores 31x10.5 which I used to run on my MK which are nearly brand new. I have placed one on the front and noticed that there is only about 3-4mm clearance between the inside of the rim and the brake caliper is this enough. I will run these if I can seen I already have them in the shed or was thinking about either getting a set of 16" wheels or just putting bigger tyres on the standard alloy rims.
I was told not to put any bigger then 265/75 by one of the local tyre shops.

3 or 4mm clearance is fine- and generally if they fit the front they fit the rear as well. it is all about the shape of the rim

we havn't found many 15" rims that fit- too mant choices out there to test/ try them all.

if you know the brand and offset that would be awesome knowledge for the forum. ;)

And there are guys running bigger than 265s. Kwyjibo is running 315s.

I'm with you Snowie. 3-4mm, while possible, is probably a bit tight. These are steel wheels so clearance issues are on wheel side of caliper to spokes and from inside diameter of wheel to caliper. Don't forget that your caliper moves with pad thickness and to some degree on its' mounts.

I see no advantage, other than perhaps cost, in having 15" wheels on a Triton.

Sell the pram wheels to a Hilux owner and go 265's on the standard wheels. As Joe says, you can go bigger, but even 265/75 starts to affect performance and economy, even if they do correct the speedo. Bigger also means different wheels from standard as you reduce offset to stop the big tyres from rubbing. 315s also tend to attract attention from Constable Plod.

Well good for you, povo pack must have smaller discs fitted

I know my GLX-R won't accommodate 15's so keep it to yourself

I'm sure the ladies and kids on this forum don't need to read your crude language carry on so try a few different words next time

ahaha yes the "pov pack" may be cheaper but gets to all the same places the "snob pack" does and for less money. and i was clearly just letting triton owners know that 15"s fit. haters gunna hate, thats my view

There have been occasional reports of 15s fitting but rims with the correct offset and style to clear everything are few and far between. Perhaps instead of posting about tossing, dicks and hating you could post up details of the actual rims you used to achieve the clearance you have?

I'm thinking the single cab must have smaller front brakes/calipers than the dual cab for that to happen.

It is difficult to get any rims to fit even 16 and 17 due to the calipers and I would guess that no 15's would fit a dual cab...would be nice to know some specs...maybe they are actually 16's....

show us some pics.

if they are a negative offset- and that much they must be miles outside the flares ;)
if I get time tonight I'll be transfering the last few posts to a 15" rim thread.

the more offset (negative) the less wheel interference with the calipers.

Some of us have never said they don't fit- we have members from 2007 that have fitted 15" rims- even on dual cabs ;)

BUT- we have never ever got confirmation of brand, and offset in order to confirm, as MOST 15" rims WILL NOT fit.

nice ride BTW 8-)
