Is this good deal for tyres

Postby King Triton on Fri Aug 29, 2008 3:29 pm

I went to a local dealer to get a price for 5 new tyres and to see what he would give me for my 5 OE tyres with 13000km on them this is what i was quoted it seems pretty decent to me what do you think.

5 x Bridgestone D694LT 265/75/16 $1000 fitted & Balanced

or

5 x BF Goodrich A/T 265/75/16 $1100 fitted & balanced

Any thoughts.

That's an excellant price for the BFG. I personally like them as an allround tyre ( no pun intended ) good on the dirt and good on the black stuff and most of all good mileage I have 45k on my BFG and hardly worn. Have just purchased 17" rims from Tassie and will be fitting BFG to these as well...... :D :D :D

Yep, good price, I got new 235/85 D694 for $1400 and sold the old ones for $250 (which was too cheap, but hey).

How does the BFG A/T compare to the M/T for noise and longevity does anyone know?

And yes that price for the BFG is pretty good, beats anything I have been offered recently.

Mind if I ask who you're dealing with King?

I haven't bought tyres locally but I had my suspension installed by Wollongong tyres and they were good on the service side and better on the price.

Sapient,
Not sure how the AT compare to the MT but I have had excellent runs out of my BFG AT's in the past. Had them on my MK & my Feroza. Had 90k on the Feroza tyres when I sold it and they were still legal. They need to be rotated at pretty much every service and make sure your wheel alignment is all good.

Thanks Buzzy. I am umming and ahhing about AT or MT, but I get the impression the increased road noise and decreased life span of MT isnt worth the additional performance off road. This is probably pretty fair considering how much of my driving is on bitumen anyway....sadly :(

They have brought out a new version of the M/T recently so you may be able to pick up the old pattern for a bit cheaper.
If you wanted something in between a BF M/T and a A/T try the cooper ST or ST-C's.
they seem to be a bit more of an aggressive tread pattern than an A/T.

ST-C is only worth the noise if you're doing a lot of rocky driving. Apparently they harder cut-resistant material is a lot noisier.

I got the best price for the tyres from Figtree Tyres.

I got a price for the D694LT's from bridgestone (Corrimal Street) and with the NRMA discount they wanted $285 a tyre
Thats $1425 for 5.

By Wollongong tyres you mean the Shallala Boys in Keira Street? (you have a pic out the front of the shop on your profile)
I was going there next to see if he can beat the price. I have always bought off him but last time i got a price he was higher than everyone else.

Ordered the BF A/T today getting fitted on Thursday.

Went around to other tyre shops and no one could get close to the $1100 price
Most were still $1400 and up and they would take off the tyre dumping fee and give a free wheel alignment worth to trade in the old tyres.
The first tyre shop i went to must be able to sell second hand tyres pretty easily.

Finally get to fill the guards and get soom much needed lift 8-) 8-)
