I need help!

Postby Rutar on Sat Aug 23, 2014 4:18 am

I apologise in advance I know this ain't about the new triton but I don't know where else to go, I have a 99 triton New Zealand new, it is fitted with factory flares, 16x6 33 rims and 245/75/16 tyres which sit well inside the flares, I'm looking to put steel rims on with a 265/70/16 tyre but am struggling to find a tyre place helpfull enough to help me out, they keep saying they won't fit, I'm after a rim that will make the 265 fit the gaurds and flares beautifully but unsure about the best offset , I appreciate any help and thank you in advance if you or someone can help me out, thanks!

If you know what your existing rim width and offset are, the following calculator will tell you what a new rim width and offset will do;

http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre- ... calculator

As a note, it doesn't take into account the width of the tyre. For example, if you stick a 265 (10.4") on an 8" rim, it will overhang the rim by 0.7" on both sides (assuming 0.5" lip width on rim).

Using that logic, an 8" rim with zero offset will move you closer to the flare (or out) by 58.4 mm assuming a 0.5" lip width on the rim. If you add 265 tyres, they add an additonal 18.2 mm. Therefore a total of 76.6 mm.

If you stick with a 33 offset and go to a 7.5" rim you would end up 43.6mm closer to flare (or past it).

What's the distance between the existing wheel and the guard?

Edit: fixed calculation error.

Standard offset on the MK alloys was +32. Going to a +10 will fill out the guards nicely.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Thanking you for the help, closest I can find in steel with the +12 offset is in 15", hoping they will fit
