15k Service-new front tyres?

Postby pauljm on Wed Feb 11, 2015 2:44 pm

Hi all,

Had a bit of a search through posts so apologies if this has been covered before but i just had my 15k service done and as i noticed a week or so ago the outside edges of the fronts are worn and they have recommended replacing them. I run 38PSi and have only been offroad (beach) a few times. Tow 2 tonne boat a few times a month but only 20ks or so each trip.

Think i will get a rotation and wheel alignment done but should i expect to get this after 15K?

Anyone else had the same?

Cheers....Paul

I had some wearing between the 1500 and 15000 services, however i spotted it early and got a wheel alignment. The tyres life has probably been reduced due to this wearing. They did a rotation at 30000kms, must have been something i did because ever since my wheel alignment i haven't had any issues

What tyres? My Bridgestone 694's "scalloped" along the outer edges from poor shocks (the genuine ones) and no dramas since changing the sussy out. Wheel alignment sounds like your issue though.
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

Have you got a Bullbar? If so the sagged front end will throw the wheel alignment out and could cause the early scrubbing.

I got 92000ks out of the original set that were on my mn glr. Probably could have got a couple of thousand more but was getting a bit scary in the wet around the roundabouts. I did rotate them every now and again but no alignmentI in the last 60000.

You must drive a lot more sensibly than me, on the stock 16's mine were totally gone after 30 000

Same issue with scalloping a bit on the otter edge more so on the passenger side. Rotated them myself to keep them going and got a wheel alignment on the 15k service. Seems to be fine now.
I rotate my own every 10,000k so i know they have been rotated properly. My other car, Prado, has just clocked over 100,000k's on it's Cooper AT3's and has plenty left.

Just always keep an eye on your tyres as they are not cheap so you should try to get reasonable k's out of them if you can.

Front left seems to always be the culprit. Shoddy alignment from factory and then made even worse with 2" lift and living in the land of roundabouts. Quick front wheel alignment and rotate the spare in if you can.

Not much you can do but look forward mate... as it could have been a pothole or a gutter mount that has caused some issues, after the alignment if there are still wearing then you could have a crack at them, other wise once aligned you should get plenty of km's out of them....Unless you are using the Triton for Drifting then they wear pretty quickly
