tax time tyre question

Postby diver albie on Wed Jun 22, 2016 9:08 pm

So looking to drop so money on tyres before the end of the year, tossing up between General Grabber AT2, Toyo Open Country, Hankook RF10 and the good old BFG's.

If it was your money what would you do

cheers
Dave

Depending on size, the Toyos are pretty good value I reckon, but I do like the look of the BFG KO2s. Hard to justify the extra cash for the BFGs though.

I went general grabber at2 30 k ago very happy used to have bfg AT but can't justify extra cost . As far as wear about the same as bfg handling can't tell any difference. Bob Jane sometimes sell them way cheaper than others.

I have general grabber at2s fitted and very happy with their performance. Great grip on dry and wet roads and handle well in sand, dirt and rock. Haven't tried them in mud.

When i was looking at tyres, 12 months ago. i was quoted $195 a tyre for the Grabbers, from Bob Jane. They didnt have them in stock, and had a 4 week wait on them

they ended up upselling me to Dick Cepek trail countrys, for $295 a corner (bloody sales people)

been happy with the DC's. they have gone up in price however. had to replace one recently as i got a cut in a side wall (think it was actually done by a rouge screw driver, as i may have parked somewhere i should have for a little too long  ). They pinged me $310 for the replacement.

I've got the toyo's on the Triton and the Landcruiser and rate them.

That said, I will be giving the Nitto's a try once the Toyo's wear out.

Best price I've had here in Perth for 265 70 17 General Grabbers is $285, about $90 a corner cheaper than BFG

Anyone had experience with Mickey Thomsom Baja ATZ P3 tyres. Upgrading from the standard hoops on my 2013 Triton. Wanting to stay with 245/70R16. Can get them for $285 fitted.

Have had the P3's on for a week. Went from BFG's AT 265/65/17 (which puts your speedo perfect btw) to 285/70/17 which puts the speedo out again. Have my ultraguage set to my GPS speed so all good.

Can't tell any driving difference atm. Plan to go down to Brunswick or do the Powerlines to see how them handle.
