Hummer rims

Well here goes.

Hummer rims are 16x 7.5" alloys, they have the same PCD (wheel stud spacing) and offset +38 as the triton.
The major benefit that I can see is they are cheep, hummer drivers are vain- so more available, good option for those running 17" rims.
Secondary, the 7.5" width enables tyres up to 285 (33") to be run, again giving more options

they look like this

Just fitted one to the triton and noticed that the stud holes are smaller than the tritons, that will mean another set of wheel nuts would be required.

Here are some pics fitted, there is room around the brakes etc.

Oh and this pic is Mitsubishi attempt to fix the rear suspension squeak.

Just put one on the front and it clears the brake caliper no problems.

The Pajero boys were also interested in these rims as there vehicle come standard in 17" rims or bigger.

A NS SWB came over and tried front and rear fitted no worries, so they might be in demand, as there offset is larger again at +46 (I think) so Prado at +30 is a big difference.

Hi All,
Can anyone who has used Hummer rims please tell me what they did for wheel nuts, as teh Triton wheel nuts are too large for the Hummer rim stud holes.
Are there generic wheel nuts I can get locally or do I have to get them off ebay from US?

cheers

Hi Mike
Super cheap sell the tapered nuts you need.
I forget the size but have purchased from them.

Also you will need to get hubcentric rings, I bought mine from wheel works on Adelaide.
You should be able to order them from any wheel specialist ..... Don't listen to them if they say they're not necessary.
Alloy wheels are hubcentric for a reason.

Cheers

Thanks Greg. That is a relief given I've already bought the rims. I suppose if I mount the wheel I should be able to measure the diameter and thickness required to spec the rings?
Any links to what these rings and nuts look like would be appreciated.
Have you been happy with them?
Thanks again.

Hub centric rings video below
The ones here are nylon but mine are aluminium, not sure if non metal are legal?
From memory mine are around 6mm thick with a tapered shoulder so they fit flush with the wheel and don't push through when mounting the wheel.

I've measured 67mm diameter on the front hub, but the minimum inner diameter of the hummer (H3) rim is like 100mm flaring out to 110mm. That would require a ring with ID=67.1mm, OD=100mm, Depth=6mm?

Does that sound right? Was yours off teh shelf or cusotm made Greg?

Cheers

I am running the Hummer alloys without hubcentric rings and they have been fine, as have a couple of others I PMed.

I figure that if the rings are only made of nylon or aluminum they won't be load baring and the rims self centre if you do up the right lugs in the right order. With only a few mm sticking out to support the rim, the Triton hub doesn't look like it is supposed to be load baring anyway.

Rings would be dia 67.1-100mm made up by Wheelworx in Adelaide for about $30 each, and BSA more expensive at $50 each. Matt from Wheelworx was extremely helpful.

I've been running these hummer rims with out them as well with no problems. Note that I've hammered these rims with 32" muddies on for 40k all over Australia. I think as long as your using tapered wheel nuts there's no need for the rings. ;)
