Draw backs of 265/75/16

Need something to get you rolling?

I've got a ML diesel and just got new 265/70 R17's (Hankook Dynapro MT's). Standard suspension. The look of the car is amazing now. and it gave a bit of lift too. Road noise is minimal.

It's an auto and I can notice it is much more sluggish now. Went for a 4hr highway drive the other day and noticed I couldn't stay above 100 going up hills. I was being overtaken by Semi's!!! Also noticed bad steering wheel shake when over 105k/hr. Is this what is meant by wheel wobble or should I get the wheel alignment re-done?

It's done 110k and recently had the EGR replaced. Do you think the sluggish performance is due to the tyres or other factors? ie manifold need decarboning. I just took it to the mechanic today to check out.

Edit: Just got my car back....They basically said its sluggish due to the oversized tyres I put on. Also said the manifold is most likely chocked up. Suggested I take it to a diesel mechanic to clean. No charge which was nice. Anyone know where I can take it in Brisbane to get the manifold cleaned out?

Thanks

That size should be ok, and not rob too much power. 32" is where it starts to get really noticeable. It is a nominal increase of 26mm over std. Will cost a bit more at the pump. Insurance wise as long as they are legal you shouldn't have a prob. You should check your state regs, but 26mm seems ok in most states.

Hey All,

Read a few threads and all of this one but can't really find a definitive answer.

Will 265/75 R16 fit my stock standard 2012 MN?
Not worried about legalities as I'll try for an engineering Cert etc
More worried about fit and scrubbing.

Thanks in advance.

Just spotted my old post. Ended up taking it to Lee who replaced the upper inlet manifold and cleaned the lower. Drives like a new truck now. So much power and sounds better too. So, larger tyres aren't an issue

Yep as naff said easy fit

I have 265 75's on my stock 16" alloys at stock height and no issues at all, even when doing this sort of thing....

Thanks gents.

Looks like I'll be getting some shortly.

Was worried that the rim width was too small.

Cheers.

Hi all,

Quick question I have already bought 265/75/16 as in SA it is legal to go 50mm bigger in tyre size. But what did everyone do about the spare wheel winch and carrier?

The spare fits just misses the leaf spring and the exhaust but It looks like it could hit the diff if the back had a bit of weight and I was out on the tracks.

Has anyone seen this? Or am I worried about nothing?

Thanks

Worried about nothing. Fits fine.
different story if you have a 3" exhaust though

+ 1 to that. Stock spare runs very close to a 3" pipe.

You could always make a section of heat shield on the pipe near the tyre.

I modified the rear mount with an oxy torch to give me more clearance. Exhaust side not body side.
Then I used a piece of high temperature gasket material to make a barrier between exhaust and tyre.

To late to save my first spare from heat damage though.
Expensive lesson
