new Mickey Thompson STZ - anyone tried em?

Postby bill1 on Thu Mar 10, 2011 11:28 am

Know its a new product since beginning of March but just thought I'd see if anyone has put these on yet?

Cant seem to find too much info on them, probably since they are so new.

Got quoted $310 per tyre for 245/70/16 which seems pretty reasonable...

Any info would be appreciated.

"Brand new to the Mickey range is the Baja STZ radial in popular sizes to fit the mid sized range of four wheel drives. With superb wet and dry traction, the new tread pattern is quiet and durable. Ten ply light truck rating in all sizes creates stability and puncture resistance for the job site or when outback touring. Grab a set for your next trip!"

10 ply?? whats a normal tyre?

they look a lot like the zeon's but maybe a smaller tread block?

I have ZEON's and they just may be a MT come back on this awesome sport truck tyre. Looks very similar to me. Also, MT and Cooper use the same case so construction and LR, SR will be similar one would think.

Be a bloody good tyre at the price mentioned. With radials I go by load rating more than ply rating. 10ply radial may only have two or three ply walls.

Fitted 265/65 17 this week, love them very quiet and I reckon the off road ability will be good, had ATZ before but thought I would give these a try.

Well went out and got em yesterday, price was as quoted at $310 each.

Agree with bikeman re them being nice and quiet, yet to test them offroad yet tho.

If anyone in Perth is interested Beach rd tyres plus in Malaga seemed to have the best prices..

Where abouts did you get them for that price? Went to the 4x4 show, and they said RRP was around $372!! ouch!

I ended up paying $360 ea fitted etc, but I do live in Hervey Bay. No good deals here!! To save money you would have to go to Brizzie. Still pleased with the STZ's will get a real test soon as heading to Carnarvon Gorge to work for 6 months, any rain and the tracks are shocking, would normaly have muds or at least ATs, so will be interesting, will post findings.

i run the 265 x 70 x 16's (31") on my lux on my Procomp 16x8 rims.. had them put on early march for $315 fitted each here in melb..

so far done almost 10,000 kms on them and havent had a problem.. (had 32" MTZs on these rims previously but wore them down to tread wear indicators and they were amazingly noisy)..

Ive towed boats my camper etc with them and they ride really nicely, are excellent in the wet and i feel are a nice all round all terrain..

after checking he site the stz dont come in the 265/75/16 they only come in 265/70/16 ?? wonder why they miss out on that sizing?

im trying to decide between the atz 4 rib and 5 rib. i do mostly on road work but dont want to lose out on off road ability when i get out and about. my only worry is if there is any difference in mileage between the two. if the 4 ribs give significantly less mileage than the 5 ribs ill take the 5's

I've been using the 4 ribs for over 40,000km. I live in the hills and do 75km of black top a day to the city and back. They've lasted really well. At a guess I'd say 40% worn.

I like the square edges on the sides. Seems to climb out of ruts easily and quickly self clean. Downside they're a little noisy and they do collect and throw a lot of rocks on dirt roads.

The store offered the 80k km deal where if they don't last that long you get 50% off replacements. The deal was you have to return every 10k for rotation and alignment to validate the warranty. $$$

I didn't bother and just rotate them with my normal servicing intervals.
