16 inch 7 wide in a standard factory steel rim was 16kg. I'd guess that a sunraysia might be heavier but there are plenty of brands that make them so they probably vary a bit.

sheesh that's a considerable difference isn't it .. that's a lot heavier than I would have expected, and yeah I would expect a sunny to be heavier than a stock steelie..

I dont really understand how offest is measured or worked out. I know what it is though. The questions I have is what offset the following has as I havent found the answer.

1.mn 16 x 7 steelies
2. Mk 16 x 6 steelies

The mk ones are on my camper trailer with 225x75 tyres.but they rub. What rim offset do i need to move the tyre out by about 1 to 1.5 inches?

Tritons have brakes that get in the way if you have deep dish wheels. Offset helps, but you still need to check them.
Positive is closer to the brakes/hub, negative is further outbound from the brakes/hub. But again, the dish matters.
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

The offset should be stamped onto the back of the MK rims.
what are the tyres rubbing on

Thanks. The tyres rub on the inside of the wheel arch.

just a quick on my pb chally has factory 17"
so im taking it has 17x7.5 with a +38 offset
the wheels i find have 17x8 and offset of +20 or +40

first will 17x8 make any difference in my 265/70/17 tyres???
and second of all im guessing that i will need the +40 off set will that make wheels push out more from the guard ?? or make them sit in towards the strut more??
or do i need to find a 17x7 or 7.5?? wide rim with the +40 offset

cause im liking the look of these

+ 20 will sit further out away from the strut and would be my pick
17x8 will pose no problems with that tyre size

can be run without the hub spacer, but being steel rims is not set correctly on the hub can cause balance issues

try one of the big tyre chains as they may have them in stock- or they will have to order in, I believe alloy wheel manufactures have them

4WD 26 - I have a set of GU 17x8 factory Alloy wheels on my ML, look great and fill the guards right out (Just legal). I do however have balance issues since putting these on. Excuse my ignorance but how do these hub spacers work ? - I was going to get rid of these rims because of the balance issues but this appears to be an easy fix ? Any advise or pix would be much appreciated.

just some random website bought up in a search

but hubcentric rings or spigot rings

should be able to purchase from a good wheel store

slight difference in the patrol hub centre and landcruiser, but as you know the brand of rim you should be able to order the rings you need.

also try what is termed finger tightening/ balancing, due to how the nut centres tth wheel, it is possible without care for the wheel to sit slightly off, spinning the wheel while finger tightening the nuts allows the nut to find the "natural" sweet spot that may get missed without care

Just on rim tyre combinations. Fitted 235/85R16 BFG to Triton 16x7" rims. Works well but this combination is a potential rim killer as no great protection to the rim so few scuff marks from brief off-road drive.

Well 4wd26 - Tried you're suggestion when rotating wheels, happy days ! :D Must say was a bit dubious at first but it works, thank you !

Hi

This forum does not make picture uploading easy so here is a link to another forum re the 235 85/R16. It shows the rim damage possible due to not much bulge past the rim.

After reading the forums,
I have just put 16x8 +20 offset ROH black trak rims with 265/75/16 BFG AT's on an MN GLX. This offset and tyre combination worked out very well on my car. No scrubbing on guards ect. The car is on standard suspension (no lift).

The tyre itself clears the inner guard by about 1/2'' when on say 80% ) steering lock. (full lock gets more clearance, there is a point where the tyre gets close to the mudflap) The sidewall of the tyre sits outside of the flares by about 10mm while the tread sits just inside the flares.

Great combination for anyone looking for a setup that wont attract too much attention and maximizes track width within the factory flares.

The combination of +20 offset, 8" rims sit the outside of the rim approximately 30mm further out than the factory 16x7'' +38 rims.

I did the measurements at home by using a sprit level on the outside of the flare down to the ground as a straight edge and measured back to the factory tyre sidewall to see how far the flares protruded beyond the tyre. I got around 20mm on the front and 30mm on the rear from memory. With my calculations based on 16x8 +20 rims I knew to expect the tyre/wheel combination to sit about 30mm further out, using my tape measure I could see that the front wheels would be slightly outside the flares (5mm) and the rears would be in line with the flare. This is pretty well how it worked out.

As mentioned above, I think this is the perfect combination for a non lifted MN triton. Handling is fine, in fact, cornering is a bit better. The downside is the higher profile tyres mean the car is a little more "boaty" on the highway but once it takes a set in a corner it is fine.

Thanks absmith. Informative post. Thinking same combo on my rig but in alloy. Did you get the new BF AT KO 2?

Yep, got those tyres. They worked out fine no issues so far, I have only done 3,000 k's though so no idea on longevity.
